The IEC provides a bureau service for the production of maps that embrace a number of election based themes. For example:
General orientation maps An example of this would be a map of a municipality depicting wards, voting districts and corresponding voting stations, and providing relevant topographical (e.g. roads, rivers, dams) and other base map features that assist the reader to geographically locate a particular election unit.
Election management and logistics maps For example, the percentage of registered persons by gender or age-group per election unit (ward, municipality, province) can be depicted by using a range of colours. Similarly, the progress of any management process can be tracked using different colours to depict process stages completed, based on municipal, ward or voting district units.
Electorate demographics maps For example the ability to use a map to graphically depict different demographic or socio-economic statistics based on the registered population for particular election units (voting districts, wards, etc.). These maps can use dot-density or colour range techniques to best depict a specific theme.
