Two municipal ward by-elections will take place in the Eastern Cape and Limpopo provinces on Wednesday, 11 April 2018.
The by-elections will be contested by six candidates from three political parties.
In the Eastern Cape:
• Ward 2 in the Kou-Kamma Municipality – EC109 will be contested by Leon Fortein of the African National Congress (ANC); Julian Jansen of the Democratic Alliance (DA); and Siphokazi Lamani of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF). The ward was previously represented by the DA and became vacant as a result of the resignation of the councillor.
The voter turnout for this ward in the 2016 Municipal Elections was 65.41% and the DA candidate won the ward with 60.42% of valid votes.
In Limpopo:
• Ward 16 in Mogalakwena Municipality – LIM367 will be contested by Lesibana Petrus Maloba of the ANC; Raisibe Rosslyn Mogashane of the DA; and Frans Jocky Mello of the EFF. The ward was previously represented by the ANC and became vacant as a result of the death of the councillor.
The voter turnout for this ward in the 2016 Municipal Elections was 40.30% and the ANC candidate won the ward with 43.99% of valid votes.
