Candidates contesting Municipal By-Elections on 21 February 2018

Two municipal ward by-elections will take place in the Western Cape province on Wednesday, 21 February 2018.

Two independent candidates and eight candidates from five political parties will be contesting the by-elections.  

The by-elections will take place as follows:

• Ward 13 in the Overstrand Municipality – WC032 will be contested by Victor Emmannuele Thomas Sabbe of the African Christian Democratic Party (ACDP); Musa Marwana of the African National Congress (ANC); Jean Reginald Orban of the Democratic Alliance (DA); and Maureen Elizabeth Faro of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF). The ward was previously represented by the DA and became vacant as a result of the resignation of the councillor. 

The voter turnout for this ward in the 2016 Municipal Elections was 79.98% and the DA candidate won the ward with 96.95% of valid votes.

• Ward 2 in the Beaufort West Municipality – WC053 will be contested by independent candidates Ernest Alfred Jan Beyers and Mohamed Amin Adams; Denvor Wilfred Sampie of the ANC; Derick Ernest Welgemoed of the DA; Eveline Ilsa Louw of the EFF; and Sandra Magdelena Solomons of the Karoo Democratic Force. The ward was previously represented by the DA and became vacant as a result of the resignation of the councillor. 

The voter turnout for this ward in the 2016 Municipal Elections was 65.02% and the DA candidate won the ward with 66.58% of valid votes.
