Candidates contesting Municipal By-Elections on 28 August 2019

Fifteen (15) municipal ward by-elections will take place in the Free State on Wednesday, 28 August 2019.

The by-elections will be contested by eighty nine (89) candidates from six (6) political parties and sixteen (16) independent candidates.  

The details of the by-elections in the Free State are as follows:

• Ward 01 in Maluti a Phofung Municipality – FS194 will be contested by five (5) candidates; Thabo Daniel Moloi, an independent candidate, Aubrey Teboho Mokhoaela from the African Content Movement (ACM), Mandlenkosi Wiseman Dlamini from the African National Congress (ANC), Moeketsi Petrus Molahlehi from the Democratic Alliance (DA) and Mpho Nicollas Sekosana from the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF).

The ward was previously represented by the ANC and became vacant as a result of the councillor’s membership being terminated from the party.  The voter turnout for this ward in the 2016 Municipal Elections was 58.08% and the ANC candidate won the ward with 80.06% of valid votes.

• Ward 07 in Maluti a Phofung Municipality – FS194 will be contested by six (6) candidates; Matrshidiso Augustina Mofokeng Tsoeu, an independent candidate, Pheko Isaac Lesibe from the ACM, Mabatho Topsy Malakoane from the ANC, Lucky Mantoa Mokoena from the African Transformation Movement (ATM), Ramosa Paulus Mofolo from the DA and Phoka Samuel Mofokeng from the EFF.

The ward was previously represented by the ANC and became vacant as a result of the councillor’s membership being terminated from the party.  The voter turnout for this ward in the 2016 Municipal Elections was 54.07% and the ANC candidate won the ward with 71.81% of valid votes.

• Ward 08 in Maluti a Phofung Municipality – FS194 will be contested by five (5) candidates; Kgauta Lazarus Motaung, an independent candidate, Nthanyane Patrick Motsoeneng from the ACM, Tobatsi David Moloi from the ANC, Lekholoa Phillip Motaung from the DA and Abednigo Khambule from the EFF.

The ward was previously represented by the ANC and became vacant as a result of the councillor’s membership being terminated from the party.  The voter turnout for this ward in the 2016 Municipal Elections was 48.30% and the ANC candidate won the ward with 68.14% of valid votes.

• Ward 10 in Maluti a Phofung Municipality – FS194 will be contested by six (6) candidates; Mojalefa Ishmael Naledi, an independent candidate, Matabane Frans Mangalinyane from the ACM, Mabuse Mokubung from the ANC, Motseki Paul Letebele from the ATM, Bernard Moleleki Mofokeng from the DA and Makata Enock Shongwe from the EFF.

The ward was previously represented by the ANC and became vacant as a result of the councillor’s membership being terminated from the party.  The voter turnout for this ward in the 2016 Municipal Elections was 50.66% and the ANC candidate won the ward with 71.49% of valid votes.

• Ward 11 in Maluti a Phofung Municipality – FS194 will be contested by six (6) candidates; Joseph Rantsane, an independent candidate, Molahlei Kleinbooi Pholoana from the ACM, Jemina Puleng Keele from the ANC, Masila Paulus Moloi from the ATM, Mahlomola Zakia Mabuya from the DA and Thabisi Faniel Dlamini from the EFF.

The ward was previously represented by the ANC and became vacant as a result of the councillor’s membership being terminated from the party.  The voter turnout for this ward in the 2016 Municipal Elections was 46.79% and the ANC candidate won the ward with 75.78% of valid votes.

• Ward 15 in Maluti a Phofung Municipality – FS194 will be contested by seven (7) candidates; Mabitle Johannes Moloi an independent candidate, Masekao Elizabeth Lebusa, an independent candidate, Pitso Petrus Makhema from the ACM, Thabo Zachia Macholo from the ANC, Dan Paseka Tshabalala from the ATM, Mathapelo Patricia Mokoena from the DA and Thabang David Moloi from the EFF.

The ward was previously represented by the ANC and became vacant as a result of the councillor’s membership being terminated from the party.  The voter turnout for this ward in the 2016 Municipal Elections was 49.60% and the ANC candidate won the ward with 74.32% of valid votes.

• Ward 16 in Maluti a Phofung Municipality – FS194 will be contested by six (6) candidates; Mohinya Azael Nhlapo, an independent candidate, Elijah Ntebejane Motseko from the ACM, Mokete Petrus Moahi from the ANC, Holiday Matala Motaung from the ATM, Malefane Joseph Moloantoa from the DA and Posholi Moses Makotoko from the EFF.

The ward was previously represented by the ANC and became vacant as a result of the councillor’s membership being terminated from the party.  The voter turnout for this ward in the 2016 Municipal Elections was 51.37% and the ANC candidate won the ward with 65.16% of valid votes.

• Ward 18 in Maluti a Phofung Municipality – FS194 will be contested by six (6) candidates; Aletta Malewatle Nthedi, an independent candidate, Sipho Israel Zulu from the ACM, Lerato Bernard Sesoai from the ANC, Sebotsa Christian Mofokeng from the ATM, Mohapi Elias Ramorakane from the DA and Mosheshe Silas Photolo from the EFF.

The ward was previously represented by the ANC and became vacant as a result of the councillor’s membership being terminated from the party. The voter turnout for this ward in the 2016 Municipal Elections was 58.58% and the ANC candidate won the ward with 64.72% of valid votes.

• Ward 20 in Maluti a Phofung Municipality – FS194 will be contested by six (6) candidates; Isaak Nare Ramohloki, an independent candidate, Daniel Teboho Khumalo from the ACM, Lekgowa Ellec Mofokeng from the ANC, Dikeledi Jenett Khoathane from the ATM, Innocent Thulani Cebekhulu from the DA and Malitaba Irene Sonopo from the EFF.

The ward was previously represented by the ANC and became vacant as a result of the councillor’s membership being terminated from the party. The voter turnout for this ward in the 2016 Municipal Elections was 51.15% and the ANC candidate won the ward with 76.94% of valid votes.

• Ward 23 in Maluti a Phofung Municipality – FS194 will be contested by seven (7) candidates; Diphapang Elias Sefatsa, an independent candidate, Benecius Kgotso Mkwanazi from the ACM, Modiehi Adelice Solani from the ANC, Samuel Johnny Radebe from the ATM, Siyabonga Steve Dlamini from the DA, Malefane Johannes Mohlapo from the EFF and Taele Patrick Sentimile from theHeavenly Economic And Political Freedom Programme (HEPFP).

The ward was previously represented by the ANC and became vacant as a result of the councillor’s membership being terminated from the party. The voter turnout for this ward in the 2016 Municipal Elections was 56.81% and the ANC candidate won the ward with 75.90% of valid votes.

• Ward 24 in Maluti a Phofung Municipality – FS194 will be contested by six (6) candidates; Shashapa Joshua Motaung, an independent candidate, Mokamo Elmon Mokoena from the ACM, Lebohang Claurina Tekela from the ANC, Dipuo Clera Lebaka from the ATM, Thabiso Michael Tutubala from the DA and Shikoda Mkhwanazi from the EFF.

The ward was previously represented by the ANC and became vacant as a result of the councillor’s membership being terminated from the party. The voter turnout for this ward in the 2016 Municipal Elections was 53.07% and the ANC candidate won the ward with 69.74% of valid votes.

• Ward 26 in Maluti a Phofung Municipality – FS194 will be contested by six (6) candidates; Nqhae Raphael Mokoena, an independent candidate, Mathapelo Christina Matona from the ACM, Moloi Joseph Tekelo from the ANC, Phineas Mokhapeloane Tshotetsi from the ATM, Pule Elias Litabe from the DA and Masheane John Sothoane from the EFF.

The ward was previously represented by the ANC and became vacant as a result of the councillor’s membership being terminated from the party. The voter turnout for this ward in the 2016 Municipal Elections was 51.00% and the ANC candidate won the ward with 73.49% of valid votes.

• Ward 29 in Maluti a Phofung Municipality – FS194 will be contested by five (5) candidates; Mafole John Ralethohlane, an independent candidate, Sammy Hendrick Mofokeng from the ACM, Thekiso Richard Motaung from the ANC, Tjale Andrew Moloi from the DA and James Fikele Tladi from the EFF.

The ward was previously represented by the ANC and became vacant as a result of the councillor’s membership being terminated from the party. The voter turnout for this ward in the 2016 Municipal Elections was 47.61% and the ANC candidate won the ward with 66.49% of valid votes.

• Ward 31 in Maluti a Phofung Municipality – FS194 will be contested by six (6) candidates; Tjopo Gilbert Mokotso, an independent candidate, Mbutinyana Daniel Moloi from the ACM, Maria Maoshoko Lekhoaba-Tsotetsi from the ANC, Bulwane Stephen Dhlikilili from the ATM, Thembeni Betwell Hadebe from the DA and Matona Stanley Masitsa from the EFF.

The ward was previously represented by the ANC and became vacant as a result of the councillor’s membership being terminated from the party. The voter turnout for this ward in the 2016 Municipal Elections was 54.17% and the ANC candidate won the ward with 68.41% of valid votes.

• Ward 34 in Maluti a Phofung Municipality – FS194 will be contested by six (6) candidates; Teboho Rymond Mohlekwa, an independent candidate, Ntebaleng Josephine Dhlamini from the ACM, Leabua Jonathan Moshoeshoe from the ANC, Tieho Jacob Sibaya from the ATM, Sam Mokoena from the DA and Thabiso Simon Mamoe from the EFF.

The ward was previously represented by the ANC and became vacant as a result of the councillor’s membership being terminated from the party. The voter turnout for this ward in the 2016 Municipal Elections was 48.03% and the ANC candidate won the ward with 47.68% of valid votes.
