Candidates contesting Municipal By-Elections on 31 October 2018

One municipal ward by-election will take place in the Gauteng province on Wednesday, 31 October 2018.

The by-elections will be contested by eight candidates from eight political parties.  

Gauteng: 

• Ward 09 in Tshwane Municipality – TSH will be contested by Evelyn Modiba of the African Christian Democratic Party (ACDP); Matshidiso Barbara Baloyi of the African National Congress (ANC); Thabiso Joseph Sikhosana from Al Jama-Ah, Jerry Phuti Tuuba from Arusha Economic Coalition, Themba Nelson Peter Donacabe from the Democratic Alliance (DA), Mamane Lina Khoza from the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), Cornelius Lebogang Maponya from Forum 4 Service Delivery (F4SD) and Leseja Philemon Makgoka from South African First (SAF).

The ward was previously represented by the ANC and became vacant as a result of the termination of the councillor’s membership from the party. 

The voter turnout for this ward in the 2016 municipal elections was 58.02% and the ANC candidate won the ward with 83.23% of valid votes.
