Municipal ward by-elections will take place in the Eastern Cape, KwaZulu-Natal, Limpopo and the Western Cape on Wednesday, 30 September 2015.
The by-elections are being contested by 27 candidates representing 9 political parties. Two wards are uncontested.
Three by-elections have been scheduled to take place in the Eastern Cape of which one is uncontested:
- Ward 15 in the Elundini [Mount Fletcher] Municipality – EC141 is uncontested. Lebohang Christopher Booka of the African National Congress is the only candidate. The ward was previously represented by the African National Congress and became vacant as a result of the death of the councillor.
- Ward 12 in the Matatiele [Matatiele] Municipality – EC441 will be contested by Katleho Bazel Molefi of the African Independent Congress; and Jimmy Thabo Tshabalala of the African National Congress. The ward was previously represented by the African National Congress and became vacant as a result of the death of the councillor.
- Ward 26 in the Mbizana [Bizana] Municipality – EC443 will be contested by Onesimo Nofemele of the African National Congress; Mlamli Langa of the National Freedom Party; and Lindekile Silangwe of the United Democratic Movement. The ward was previously represented by the African National Congress and became vacant as a result of the death of the councillor.
Four by-elections will take place in KwaZulu-Natal:
- Ward 2 in the eMadlangeni [Utrecht] Municipality – KZN253 will be contested by Ntsikelelo Ndlovu of the African National Congress; Hezekia Mathoni Mthethwa of the Inkatha Freedom Party; and Photha Joseph Nkosi of the National Freedom Party. The ward was previously represented by the African National Congress and became vacant as a result of the death of the councillor.
- Ward 13 in the Ulundi [Ulundi] Municipality – KZN266 will be contested by Bongumusa Wilberforce Zulu of the African National Congress; Lindelani Yaka of Inkatha Freedom Party; and Meltah Zandile Mlambo of National Freedom Party. The ward was previously represented by the Inkatha Freedom Party and became vacant as a result of the death of the councillor.
- Ward 3 in The Big 5 False Bay [ Hluhluwe] Municipality – KZN273 will be contested by Thokozani Bernard Mfeka of the African National Congress; Sibongile Fortunate Ngubane of the Economic Freedom Fighters; Fikezweni Zeblon Nkwanyana of the Inkatha Freedom Party; and Joseph Mlungu Mathobela of the National Freedom Party. The ward was previously represented by the African National Congress and became vacant as a result of the death of the councillor.
- Ward 8 in the uMlalazi [Eshowe] Municipality – KZN284 will be contested by Wiseman Phiwayinkosi Mzimela of African National Congress; Zakheleni Mfananini Mhlongo of the Inkatha Freedom Party; and Sithembile Thandeka Maphumulo of the National Freedom Party. The ward was previously represented by the Inkatha Freedom Party and became vacant as a result of the death of the councillor.
Two by-elections will take place in Limpopo:
- Ward 24 in the Greater Tzaneen [Tzaneen] Municipality – LIM333 will be contested by Thomas Hlungwavukosi Mushwana of the African National Congress; and Joel Irvin Shirindzi of the Democratic Alliance. The ward was previously represented by the African National Congress and became vacant as a result of the resignation of the councillor.
- Ward 4 in the Ephraim Mogale [Marble Hall] Municipality – LIM471 will be contested by Mkhulunyana Jonas Kekana of the African National Congress; and Happiness Makgotsane Mahlwele of the Mpumalanga Party. The ward was previously represented by the African National Congress and became vacant as a result of the death of the councillor.
Two by-elections have been scheduled for the Western Cape of which one is uncontested:
- Ward 11 in the Theewaterskloof [Caledon] Municipality – WC031 will be contested by John Robert Michels of the African National Congress; Rodney George Johnson of the Democratic Alliance; and Jaftha Otto Fortuin of the Independent Civic Organisation of South Africa. The ward was previously represented by the Democratic Alliance and became vacant as a result of the death of the councillor
- Ward 13 in the Overstrand [Greater Hermanus] Municipality – WC032 is uncontested. Junita Carolina Kloppers-Lourens of the Democratic Alliance is the only candidate. The ward was previously represented by the Democratic Alliance and became vacant as a result of the resignation of the councillor.
