Candidates contesting municipal by-elections on 9 December 2015

Municipal ward by-elections will take place in KwaZulu-Natal and the Western Cape on Wednesday, 9 December 2015.

The by-elections are being contested by 10 candidates representing 7 political parties.

One by-election will take place in KwaZulu-Natal
•   Ward 10 in the Vulamehlo [Dududu] Municipality – KZN211 will be contested by Lungisa Reggie Dlamini of the African National Congress; Nomusa Florence Mthembu of the Inkatha Freedom Party; and Thembinkosi Osman Mtolo of the National Freedom Party. The ward was previously represented by the African National Congress and became vacant as a result of the death of the councillor.

Two by-elections will take place in the Western Cape:
•   Ward 101 in the City of Cape Town [Cape Town] Municipality – CPT will be contested by Luyanda Maxwell Mbele of the African National Congress; and Siseko Mbandezi of the Democratic Alliance. The ward was previously represented by the African National Congress and became vacant as a result of the resignation of the councillor. 
•   Ward 13 in the Oudtshoorn [Oudtshoorn] Municipality – WC045 will be contested by Joey Roseline Canary of the African National Congress; Piet Luiters of the Democratic Alliance; Jurie Harmse of the South African Religious Civic Organisation; Leon Andy Jonathan Lucas of the Unemployed Peoples Association and Hester Naomi Felix of the Ward Democratic Forum. The ward was previously represented by the Democratic Alliance and became vacant as a result of the termination of the councillor’s membership from the party.

Voting stations will be open from 07h00 to 21h00. A total of 24 243 voters are registered in the 14 voting districts where by-elections will be taking place.
