Correction on the statement issued today regarding candidates contesting Municipal By-Elections on 9 January 2019

There is only one municipal ward by-election taking place in Mpumalanga province on 9 January 2019, and not four municipal ward by-elections as indicated in the media statement issued earlier today.

The other three (3) ward by elections in the Western Cape will only take place on 16 January 2019 in the following municipalities: City of Cape Town – CPT in Wards 31 and 101; Bergrivier – WC013 Ward 5

Therefore municipal by-election in Mpumalanga will be contested by two (2) candidates from two (2) political parties, details are as follows.

Ward 1 in the Thaba Chweu Municipality – MP321 will be contested by Phindiwe Annah Segoane of the African National Congress (ANC); and Exodus Kgolofelo Mabanne of the Economic Freedom Fighters. The ward was previously represented by the ANC and became vacant as a result of the death of the councillor.

The voter turnout for this ward in the 2016 Municipal Elections was 47.97% and the ANC candidate won the ward with 82.55% of valid votes.

Voting will take place at the following voting stations:
