The Electoral Commission with the concurrence of the Local Political Party Liaison Committee has decided to approach the MEC for Local Government of North West to ask her to postpone the by-elections in ward 18, Moretele Municipality by 7 days. Therefore the by elections will take place on Wednesday, 12 April 2017.
This postponement is as a result of the registration details of some voters being incorrect.
The Acting Chief Electoral Officer will now invoke the provisions of the Promotion of Administrative Justice Act to inform the affected voters of his intention to correctly register them.
The Electoral Commission regrets the inconvenience that may have been incurred to the voters of ward 18. The postponement is however necessary to ensure free and fair elections.
