Publication of the Election Timetable

The Electoral Commission yesterday held a meeting with the National Party Liaison Committee (NPLC) to consult on the Election Timetable to be used in the 2014 National and Provincial Elections (NPE). Following this consultative process, the Electoral Commission is now in a position to publish the Election Timetable, setting the dates and deadlines for various aspects of the upcoming national and provincial elections including the submission of party candidate lists, objections to candidates, applications for special votes and notifications by overseas voters.

The Election Timetable covers the key legal requirements to be met by voters, political parties and the Electoral Commission over the 70 days leading up to the 7 May 2014 elections. The Election Timetable was published in a special Government Gazette and is available on the IEC website (www.elections.org.za).

Among the key dates set by the Election Timetable are the following:

Voters who need more information on the upcoming elections, such as confirmation of their registration details and voting station locations, should contact the IEC Call on     0800 11 8000 or visit the IEC website at www.elections.org.za. Voters who want to know whether they are registered and where they should vote can also send an SMS with their ID number to 32810.
