During the by-elections contested yesterday in the Western Cape province, the African National Congress (ANC) retained one seat and the Democratic Alliance (DA) retained two seats it won in the 2016 Municipal Elections.
The new councillor for the ANC is:
• Siyabonga Solly Duka in Ward 101 in City of Cape Town Municipality – CPT. The party retained the seat it won in the 2016 Municipal Elections, with 86.47% of the votes cast compared to 85.58% in the 2016 Municipal Elections. Voter turnout yesterday was 19.02%.
The new councillors for the DA are:
• Theresa Bereniece Thompson in Ward 31 in City of Cape Town Municipality – CPT. The party retained the seat it won in the 2016 Municipal Elections, with 61.82% of the votes cast compared to 81.17% in the 2016 Municipal Elections. Voter turnout yesterday was 26.75%.
• Adam Andreas Van Wyk in Ward 5 in Bergrivier Municipality – WC013. The party retained the seat it won in the 2016 Municipal Elections, with 44.71% of the votes cast compared to 50.87% in the 2016 Municipal Elections. Voter turnout yesterday was 55.34%.
