The Democratic Alliance (DA) retained both the wards that they had won in the 2016 Municipal Elections during the by-elections contested yesterday, 18 July 2018, in the Free State and Mpumalanga.
• Ruanda Meyer is the new councillor in Ward 18 of Metsimaholo Municipality – FS204 for the DA. The party retained the seat it won in the 2016 Municipal Elections with an increased margin of 90.78% of the votes cast compared to 82.06%. Voter turnout was 34% compared to 65.07% in the 2016 Municipal Elections.
• Jacobus Rosier de Ville is the new councillor in Ward 10 of Lekwa Municipality – MP305 for the DA. The party retained the seat it won in the 2016 Municipal Elections with an increased margin of 84.64% of votes cast compared to 73.91%. Voter turnout was 39.51% compared to 59.67% in the 2016 Municipal Elections.
