The African National Congress retained three wards and the Democratic Alliance retained two wards that they had both won in the 2016 Municipal Elections in by-elections contested yesterday in KwaZulu-Natal, Limpopo, North West and the Western Cape provinces.
The new councillors for the African National Congress are:
• Tjalapa Lucas Mooka in Ward 9 in the Mogalakwena Municipality – LIM367. The party retained the seat it won in the 2016 Municipal Elections, however, with a lesser margin of 63.41% of the votes cast compared to 79.99% in the 2016 Municipal Elections. Voter turnout yesterday was 50.44%.
• Moswana Stoffel Seodisa in Ward 1 in the Modimolle/Mookgopong Municipality – LIM368. The party retained the seat it won in the 2016 Municipal Elections, with a lesser margin of 51.46% of the votes cast compared to 64.96% in the 2016 Municipal Elections. Voter turnout yesterday was 51.35%.
• Grace Gamma in Ward 1 in the Naledi Municipality – NW392. The party retained the seat it won in the 2016 Municipal Elections, increasing its margin to 56.11% of the votes cast compared to 54.90% in the 2016 Municipal Elections. Voter turnout yesterday was 53.81%.
The new councillors for the Democratic Alliance are:
• Nkululeko Fortune Mkhize in Ward 33 in the Msunduzi Municipality – KZN255. The party retained the seat won in the 2016 Municipal Elections, increasing its margin to 47.69% of the votes cast compared to 44.04% in the 2016 Municipal Elections. Voter turnout yesterday was 33.76%.
• Mlulami Wandisile Neville Ngeyi in Ward 4 in the City of Cape Town – CTP. The party retained the seat won in the 2016 Municipal Elections with a lesser margin of 61.61% of the votes cast compared to 63.70% in the 2016 Municipal Elections. Voter turnout was 23.72%
