During the by-elections contested yesterday in the Western Cape, the Democratic Alliance (DA) retained both seats that they won during the 2016 Municipal Elections.
The new councillors for the DA are:
• Jean Reginald Orban in Ward 13 in the Overstrand Municipality – WC032. The party retained the seat it won in the 2016 Municipal Elections, however with a reduced margin of 95.20% of the votes cast compared to 96.75% in the 2016 Municipal Elections. Voter turnout yesterday was 47.44%.
• Derick Ernest Welgemoed in Ward 2 in the Beaufort West Municipality – WC053. The party retained the seat it won in the 2016 Municipal Elections, however with a slightly reduced margin of 60.23% of the votes cast compared to 66.43% in the 2016 Municipal Elections. Voter turnout yesterday was 53.56%.
