During the by-elections contested yesterday in KwaZulu-Natal, Limpopo and the Western Cape, the African National Congress (ANC) retained three seats and the Democratic Alliance (DA) retained one seat.
The new councillors for the ANC are:
• Victor Bekithemba Zulu in Ward 28 in Ray Nkonyeni Municipality – KZN216. The party retained the seat it won in the 2016 Municipal Elections, with 88.35% of the votes cast compared to 96.77% in the 2016 Municipal Elections. Voter turnout yesterday was 50.96%.
• Makoma Josephine Mohale in Ward 26 in Greater Letaba Municipality – LIM332. The party retained the seat it won in the 2016 Municipal Elections, with 65.89% of the votes cast compared to 75.98% in the 2016 Municipal Elections. Voter turnout yesterday was 53.70%.
• Thando Charles Matika in Ward 8 in Knysna Municipality – WC048. The party retained the seat it won in the 2016 Municipal Elections, with 84.57% of the votes cast compared to 67.50% in the 2016 Municipal Elections. Voter turnout yesterday was 46.24%.
The new councillor for the DA is:
• Luwellyn Gregory Willemse in Ward 3 in Breede Valley Municipality – WC025. The party retained the seat it won in the 2016 Municipal Elections, with 52.16% of the votes cast compared to 49.35% in the 2016 Municipal Elections. Voter turnout yesterday was 48.78%.
