Results of the Municipal By-Elections held on 28 February 2018

The African National Congress retained both wards it won in the 2016 Municipal Elections during the by-elections contested on Wednesday, 28 February 2018, in Gauteng and the North West. 

• Thomas Makapane Mokwena is the new councillor in Ward 14 of City of Johannesburg - JHB. The party retained the seat it won in the 2016 Municipal Elections, increasing its margin to 72.21% of the votes cast compared to 62.35% in the 2016 Municipal Elections. Voter turnout was 28.72%.

• Thotinyane Wendy Maseng is the new councillor in Ward 20 of Mafikeng - NW383. The party retained the seat it won in the 2016 Municipal Elections, increasing its margin of 59.49% of votes cast compared to 57.69% in the 2016 Municipal Elections. Voter turnout was 30.41%
