The African National Congress retained all three seats during yesterday’s by-elections in KwaZulu-Natal, Mpumalanga and the North West.
The new African National Congress councillors are:
• Doreen Nozipho Hlongwa in ward 18, Umdoni Municipality - KZN212. The party retained the seat it won in the 2016 Municipal Elections, increasing its margin to 73.85% of the votes cast compared to 64.56% in the 2016 Municipal Elections. Voter turnout yesterday was 50.92% compared to 64.56% in the 2016 Municipal elections.
• Jacob Thandizwe Duma in ward 6, Emakhazeni Municipality - MP314. The party retained the seat it won in the 2016 Municipal Elections, increasing its margin to 79.77% of the votes cast compared to 64.57% in the 2016 Municipal Elections. Voter turnout yesterday was 37.84% compared to 56.41% in the 2016 Municipal Elections.
• Sello Lucas Moekeletsi in ward 18, Moretele Municipality - NW371. The party retained the seat it won in the 2016 Municipal Elections however, with a slightly lower margin of 62.16% of the votes cast compared to 69.42% in the 2016 Municipal Elections. Voter turnout yesterday was 46.74% compared to 52.06% in the 2016 Municipal Elections.
