The African National Congress and the Democratic Alliance both retained their representation in yesterday’s by-elections held in Dihlabeng and City of Johannesburg respectively.
The new councillors are:
• Bereng Francis Mokoena of the African National Congress in Ward 9 in the Dihlabeng [Bethlehem] Municipality – FS192, Free State. The seat was retained by the party with 47.5% of the 1 476 votes cast (49.56% turnout).
• Basil Mark Douglas of the Democratic Alliance in Ward 68 in the City of Johannesburg [Johannesburg] Municipality – JHB, Gauteng. The seat was retained by the party with 51.81% of the 7 270 votes cast (37.39% turnout).
