The African National Congress has won all four wards contested in yesterday’s by-elections. One ward was uncontested.
The average voter turnout was 48.32%.
The new councillors are:
• Dumisani Mzili in Ward 1 in the Amahlathi [Stutterheim] Municipality – EC124, Eastern Cape. The ward which was uncontested was retained by the party.
• Meriam Matshidiso Ncheche in Ward 2 in the Nala [Bothaville] Municipality – FS185, Free State. The seat was retained by the party with 47.09% of the 1 860 votes cast. Voter turnout was 57.73%.
• Andries Smit in Ward 10 in the Witzenberg [Ceres] Municipality – WC022, Western Cape. The seat was retained by the party with 43.38% of the 1 604 votes cast. Voter turnout was 41.07%.
• Gladys Libazi in Ward 5 in the Swellendam [Barrydale/Swellendam] Municipality – WC034, Western Cape. The seat was retained by the party with 72.62% of the 2 559 votes cast. Voter turnout was 47.94%.
