Statements impugning the integrity of the Electoral Commission

The Electoral Commission has noted with concern media reports attributed to certain political parties and leaders impugning the integrity of the Commission and individual commissioners.

As is its tradition, the Commission does not respond via the media to statements made by political parties and their leaders. The Commission has forums such as the Party Liaison Committees where all political parties sit with the Commission and its representatives to discuss matters related to election processes and any topic of interest that impacts on the running of elections.

The Commission urges all political parties and leaders to make use of these structures and the availability of the Commission to meet with political party leaders at any time to discuss matters of mutual interest.

The Commission further urges political parties and their leaders to be circumspect about statements they may make regarding the integrity of the Commission and credibility of the election process.
