Wards to be contested in the municipal by-elections of 13 and 27 August 2014

Two sets of municipal ward by-elections will take place next month. The first round of by-elections are scheduled for 13 August 2014 in the Eastern Cape, Free State, Gauteng, KwaZulu-Natal, Limpopo, Mpumalanga, North West, the Northern Cape and the Western Cape while the second round will take place in KwaZulu-Natal on 27 August 2014.

A total of 25 wards will be contested on Wednesday, 13 August. Voting will take place in 124 voting districts in the following wards:

Eastern Cape:
•  Ward 10 in Ndlambe [Port Alfred] Municipality – EC105 with 4 042 registered voters. The ward became vacant as a result of the councillor being elected to represent the party in the Provincial Legislature.
•  Ward 11 in Port St Johns [Port St Johns] Municipality – EC154 with 3 773 registered voters. The ward became vacant as a result of the death of the councillor.
•  Ward 10 in Nelson Mandela Bay [Port Elizabeth] – NMA with 10 789 registered voters. The ward became vacant as a result of the councillor being elected to represent the party in the Provincial Legislature.
•  Ward 40 in Nelson Mandela Bay [Port Elizabeth] – NMA with 11 557 registered voters. The ward became vacant as a result of the councillor being elected to represent the party in the Provincial Legislature.

Free State:
•  Ward 17 in Moqhaka [Kroonstad] Municipality – FS201 with 4 152 registered voters. The ward became vacant as a result of the resignation of the councillor.
•  Ward 24 in Mangaung Metropolitan [Bloemfontein] Municipality – MAN with 7 906 registered voters. The ward became vacant as a result of the resignation of the councillor.

Gauteng:
•  Ward 32 in the City of Johannesburg [Johannesburg] Municipality – JHB with 19 102 registered voters. The ward became vacant as a result of the councillor being elected to represent the party in the National Assembly.
•  Ward 90 in the City of Johannesburg [Johannesburg] Municipality – JHB with 15 982 registered voters. The ward became vacant as a result of the councillor being elected to represent the party in the National Assembly.
•  Ward 52 in Tshwane Metropolitan [Pretoria] Municipality – TSH with 14 497 registered voters. The ward became vacant as a result of the councillor being elected to represent the party in the Provincial Legislature.

KwaZulu-Natal:
•  Ward 4 in Indaka [Waaihoek] Municipality – KZN233 with 4 745 registered voters. The ward became vacant as a result of the termination of the councillor’s membership by the party.

Limpopo:
•  Ward 20 in Polokwane [Pietersburg] Municipality – LIM354 with 8 825 registered voters. The ward became vacant as a result of the councillor being elected to represent the party in the Provincial Legislature.
•  Ward 23 in Polokwane [Pietersburg] Municipality – LIM354 with 8 788 registered voters. The ward became vacant as a result of the resignation of the councillor.

Mpumalanga:
•  Ward 2 in Emakhazeni [Belfast] Municipality – MP314 with 3 211 registered voters. The ward became vacant as a result of the termination of the councillor’s membership by the party.
•  Ward 14 in Thaba Chweu [Sabie] Municipality – MP321 with 6 446 registered voters. The ward became vacant as a result of the resignation of the councillor.

North West:
•  Ward 6 in Rustenburg [Rustenburg] Municipality – NW373 with 6 262 registered voters. The ward became vacant as a result of the death of the councillor.
•  Ward 12 in Rustenburg [Rustenburg] Municipality – NW373 with 6 748 registered voters. The ward became vacant as a result of the death of the councillor.
•  Ward 25 in Rustenburg [Rustenburg] Municipality – NW373 with 5 749 registered voters. The ward became vacant as a result of the resignation of the councillor.
•  Ward 22 in Tlokwe [Potchefstroom] Municipality – NW402 with 5 912 registered voters. The ward became vacant as a result of the councillor being elected to represent the party in the National Assembly.

Northern Cape:
•  Ward 4 in NAMA KHOI [Springbok] Municipality – NC062 with 2 811 registered voters. The ward became vacant as a result of the resignation of the councillor.
•  Ward 11 in KHARA HAIS [Upington] Municipality – NC083 with 2 847 registered voters. The ward became vacant as a result of the death of the councillor.

Western Cape:
•  Ward 5 in City of Cape Town [Cape Town] Municipality – CPT with 17 316 registered voters. The ward became vacant as a result of the councillor being elected to represent the party in the National Assembly.
•  Ward 54 in City of Cape Town [Cape Town] Municipality – CPT with 19 435 registered voters. The ward became vacant as a result of the councillor being elected to represent the party in the Provincial Legislature.
•  Ward 56 in City of Cape Town [Cape Town] Municipality – CPT with 16 544 registered voters. The ward became vacant as a result of the councillor being elected to represent the party in the National Assembly.
•  Ward 10 in Swartland [Malmesbury] Municipality – WC015 with 4 129 registered voters. The ward became vacant as a result of the councillor being elected to represent the party in the National Assembly.
•  Ward 13 in Mossel Bay [Mossel Bay] Municipality – WC043 with 3 293 registered voters. The ward became vacant as a result of the termination of the councillor’s membership by the party.

One ward will be contested on Wednesday, 27 August. Voting will take place in six (6) voting districts in the following ward:

KwaZulu-Natal:
•  Ward 4 in Jozini [Mkuze] Municipality – KZN272 with 4 003 registered voters. The ward became vacant as a result of the expulsion of the councillor by the MEC following the imprisonment of the councillor.
