Candidates contesting the municipal by-elections scheduled for 30 January 2013

The first municipal ward by-elections for 2013 will take place on Wednesday, 30 January in two provinces, KwaZulu-Natal and the Western Cape.

Three (3) vacant wards will be contested by 13 candidates, of whom three (3) are independent and the rest represent five (5) political parties.

One by-election will take place in KwaZulu-Natal:
• Ward 5 in uMngeni [Howick] Municipality – KZN222 will be contested by Mlungisi Joel Msomi of the African National Congress; and John Neville Lewis of the Democratic Alliance.
The ward was previously represented by the Democratic Alliance and became vacant as a result of the resignation of the councillor.

Two by-elections will take place in the Western Cape:
• Ward 22 in City of Cape Town [Cape Town] Municipality – CPT will be contested by Etienne Danielle Arends of the African National Congress; Jemayne Alvira Andrews of the Congress of the People; Johanna Martlow of the Democratic Alliance; Victoria Pretorius of the National Freedom Party; and Fosia Kennedy of the United Democratic Movement.
The ward was previously represented by the Democratic Alliance and became vacant as a result of the termination of the councillor’s membership by the party.

• Ward 10 in Witzenberg [Ceres] Municipality – WC022 will be contested by three independent candidates: Moses Jurgen Davids, Neville Aubrey Daniels and Sarie Botha; and Piet Waterboer of the African National Congress; Wilhelmina Magdalena Willemse of the Democratic Alliance; and Mark Anthony Mentor of the National Freedom Party.
The ward was previously represented by the Democratic Alliance and became vacant as a result of the termination of the councillor’s membership by the party.

Voting stations will be open from 07h00 to 21h00. A total of 22 131 voters are registered in the three wards and 18 voting districts where by-elections will be taking place.

Registered voters can also SMS their ID number to 32810 to check whether their registration details are correct.
