Candidates contesting the municipal by-elections scheduled for 7 August 2013

Municipal ward by-elections will take place in five provinces, namely Eastern Cape, KwaZulu-Natal, Mpumalanga, North West and the Western Cape on Wednesday, 7 August 2013.

A total of 21 wards will be contested by 79 candidates, 11 of whom are independent candidates with the rest representing 14 political parties.

Two (2) by-elections have been scheduled for the Eastern Cape of which one is uncontested:
• Ward 6 in Inxuba Yethemba [Cradock] Municipality – EC131 is uncontested with Siphiwo Willie Njobo of the African National Congress being the only candidate.
The ward was previously represented by the African National Congress and the vacancy is the result of the resignation of the councillor.

• Ward 15 in Engcobo [Engcobo] Municipality – EC137 will be contested by Jongisephi Poswa of the African National Congress; Nonceba Xhinti of the National Freedom Party; and Zamikhaya Mbhem of the United Democratic Movement.
The ward was previously represented by the African National Congress and the vacancy is the result of the death of the councillor.

Two (2) by-elections will take place in KwaZulu-Natal:
• Ward 22 in Abaqulusi [Vryheid] Municipality – KZN263 will be contested by Andreas Sibusiso Thango of the African Christian Democratic Party; Bheka Aaron Mtshali of the African National Congress; Henry Nqobezetha Sikhakhana of the Inkatha Freedom Party; and Zodwa Thulisile Qwabe of the National Freedom Party.
The ward was previously represented by the African National Congress and the vacancy is the result of the resignation of the councillor.

• Ward 11 in Maphumulo [Maphumulo] Municipality – KZN294 will be contested by Zimisele Wonderboy Ninela of the African National Congress; Michael Zonele Cele of the Inkatha Freedom Party; and Hlakaniphile Goodness Sizile Zubane of the National Freedom Party.
The ward was previously represented by the African National Congress and the vacancy is the result of the death of the councillor.
One by-election (1) will take place in Mpumalanga:
• Ward 15 in Albert Luthuli [Elukwatini/Carolina] Municipality – MP301 will be contested by Lucky David Shabangu of the African National Congress; Lucky Meshack Mayaba of the Democratic Alliance; and Alfred Bongani Maseko of the Inkatha Freedom Party.
The ward was previously represented by the African National Congress and the vacancy is the result of the death of the councillor.

Nine (9) by-elections will take place in the North West:
• Ward 19 in Rustenburg [Rustenburg] Municipality – NW373 will be contested by Matshepiso Marcia Thekiso, an independent candidate; Elane Barnad Mtyotywa of the African National Congress; Moses Smuts Ramagogodi of the African Peoples’ Convention; and Enti Petrus Mokgwatlheng of the United Christian Democratic Party.
The ward was previously represented by the African National Congress and the vacancy is the result of the resignation of the councillor.

• Ward 14 in Ratlou [Setlagole] Municipality – NW381 will be contested by Motsewabangwe David Seitshiro of the African National Congress; Mookgo Veronica Ntasi of the Congress of the People; and Lopang Donald Tladi of the United Christian Democratic Party.
The ward was previously represented by the African National Congress and the vacancy is the result of the death of the councillor.

• Ward 4 in Mafikeng [Mafikeng] Municipality – NW383 will be contested by Freddy Enock Gantana and Ramoitlhoane Marcus Amos Dibe, both independent candidates; Tsietsi Emet Monareng of the African National Congress; and Titi Joseph Kelefetswe of the United Christian Democratic Party.
The ward was previously represented by the African National Congress and the vacancy is the result of the resignation of the councillor.

• Ward 12 in Mafikeng [Mafikeng] Municipality – NW383 will be contested by Gape Advice Kgwadibane of the African National Congress; Mogopodi Phinius Maselwane of the Congress of the People; Bakang Reginah Phetlhu of the South African Political Party; and Ezran Lebang Gaonakala of the United Christian Democratic Party.
The ward was previously represented by the African National Congress and the vacancy is the result of the resignation of the councillor.

• Ward 20 in Ditsobotla [Lichtenburg] Municipality – NW384 will be contested by Ben Michael Njoro, an independent candidate; Benjamin Benny Maretlwa of the African National Congress; Mmusi Moses Mokoko of the Congress of the People; and Nthutang Samuel Tsie of the United Christian Democratic Party.
The ward was previously represented by the African National Congress and the vacancy is the result of the resignation of the councillor.

• Ward 12 in Ramotshere Moiloa [Zeerust] Municipality – NW385 will be contested by Jacob Manotshe Malebe, an independent candidate; Steven Molefe of the African Christian Democratic Party; Areus Tutu Matebesi of the African National Congress; Oupanyana Patrick Mosadi of the Congress of the People; Letshwiti Abram Moloi of the Democratic Alliance; Kgomotso Sinah Phaladi of the United Christian Democratic Party; and Charles Keobusitse Itumelang Moiloa of the Working-Together Political Party.
The ward was previously represented by the African National Congress and the vacancy is the result of the resignation of the councillor.

• Ward 14 in Ramotshere Moiloa [Zeerust] Municipality – NW385 will be contested by Batlhalefeng Moleleki, an independent candidate; Boitumelo Maria Sikwa of the African National Congress; Tebogo Thomas Montlhe of the Congress of the People; Letlhogomolo Lucky Makgetla of the South African Political Party; Gaborone Baker Mbele of the United Christian Democratic Party; and Gaborekwe Sometine Motswenyane of the Working-Together Political Party.
The ward was previously represented by the African National Congress and the vacancy is the result of the resignation of the councillor.

• Ward 4 in NW397-NW397 Local Municipality [Ganyesa/Pomfret] will be contested by Sekokole Gloria Ngamole of the African National Congress; Mocumi Samuel Thue of the Democratic Alliance; and Gookeditswe Sam Kgatlhane of the United Christian Democratic Party.
The ward was previously represented by the African National Congress and the vacancy is the result of the resignation of the councillor.

• Ward 9 in Tlokwe [Potchefstroom] Municipality – NW402 will be contested by Khotso Victor Ratikoane, an independent candidate; Segogonyane Mary Mosieleng of the African National Congress; Matong Ben Tshesebe of the African People’s Convention; Phiri Abram Khoarai of the Congress of the People; and Tshepo Jacky Tobolo of the Democratic Alliance.
The ward was previously represented by the African National Congress and the vacancy is the result of the resignation of the councillor.

Seven (7) by-elections will take place in the Western Cape:
• Ward 5 in Bergrivier [Velddrif] Municipality – WC013 will be contested by Dirk Jakobus Adams of the African National Congress; and Daniel Joseph Smith of the Democratic Alliance.
The ward was previously represented by the Democratic Alliance and the vacancy is the result of the resignation of the councillor.

• Ward 3 in Overstrand [Greater Hermanus] Municipality – WC032 will be contested by Petrus Johannes Hendriksz, an independent candidate; Vuyani Colbert Macotha of the African National Congress; and Karen Dionne Brice of the Democratic Alliance.
The ward was previously represented by the Democratic Alliance and the vacancy is the result of the resignation of the councillor.
• Ward 1 in George [George] Municipality – WC044 will be contested by Pieter Jacobus Van der Hoven of the African National Congress; Melvin George Naik of the Democratic Alliance; Tobias Johannes Koen of the George Independent Ratepayers Forum; and Neil Edwin Carelse of the Independent Civic Organisation of South Africa.
The ward was previously represented by the Democratic Alliance and the vacancy is the result of the resignation of the councillor.
• Ward 5 in Oudtshoorn [Oudtshoorn] Municipality – WC045 will be contested by Manuel David Forbes, an independent candidate; Sonja Carmen Petronella Biljohn of the African National Congress; Hendrik Ruiters of the Democratic Alliance; and Hessie Maxim of the South African Progressive Civic Organisation.
The ward was previously represented by the African National Congress and the vacancy is the result of the termination of the councillor’s membership by the party.

• Ward 6 in Oudtshoorn [Oudtshoorn] Municipality – WC045 will be contested by Veronica Williams of the African National Congress; Christina Muller of the Democratic Alliance; and Nico Clive Veldsman of the South African Progressive Civic Organisation.
The ward was previously represented by the African National Congress and the vacancy is the result of the termination of the councillor’s membership by the party.

• Ward 13 in Oudtshoorn [Oudtshoorn] Municipality – WC045 will be contested by Dean Claassen, an independent candidate; Susara Amsterdam of the African National Congress; Jurie Harmse of the Democratic Alliance; and Imelda Bernidette Goliath of the South African Progressive Civic Organisation.
The ward was previously represented by the African National Congress and the vacancy is the result of the termination of the councillor’s membership by the party.

• Ward 4 in Bitou [Greater Plettenberg Bay] Municipality – WC047 will be contested by Keith Kenneth Kleynhans, an independent candidate; Hilda Plaatjies of the African National Congress; St Nel Williams of the Congress of the People; Elaine Elizaberth Paulse of the Democratic Alliance; and Cornelius Oliver Krigga of the Plettenberg Bay Community Forum.
The ward was previously represented by the African National Congress and the vacancy is the result of the resignation of the councillor.

Voting stations will be open from 07h00 to 21h00. A total of 82 990 voters are registered in the 21 wards and 99 voting districts where by-elections will be taking place.
