Registration this weekend for wards to be contested in Municipal By-Elections on 1 March 2017

Two municipal ward by-elections are scheduled to take place in the Eastern Cape and the Free State on Wednesday 1 March 2017.

In terms of the Constitutional Court ruling of 14 June 2016, the Electoral Commission is required to implement Section 16 (3) of the Electoral Act which requires that voters’ rolls should contain the address of voters “where available” for all future elections including by-elections.

For this reason the Electoral Commission urges all registered and potential voters in the affected wards to ensure their registration details and addresses are up to date by visiting the voting stations listed below this weekend Saturday 10 December and Sunday 11 December from 08h00 to 17h00

Voters should take their ID document with them (either a green barcoded ID book, a smartcard ID or a valid Temporary ID Certificate). They will also need to complete their physical home address on registration. However, documented proof of address (e.g. a municipal account) is not required.

Voters may also check and update their details at their local IEC office during office hours on weekdays.

By-elections will be held in the following wards/voting districts:
