Results of the Municipal By-Elections held on 13 November 2019

During the by-elections contested yesterday in the Western Cape, the African National Congress (ANC) won one (1) seat from the Democratic Alliance (DA) and the DA retained two (2) seats gained in the 2016 Municipal Elections. 

The new ANC councillor is:

• Cecil Andrew Le Fleur in Ward 04 in the Matzikama Municipality – WC011. The candidate gained the seat from the DA who won it in the 2016 Municipal Elections. The total votes cast was 51.30% compared to 49.86% in the 2016 Municipal Elections. Voter turnout yesterday was 49.78%.

The two (2) new DA councillors are:

• Ebrahim Sawant in Ward 19 in the City of Cape Town Municipality – CPT. The party retained the seat it won in the 2016 Municipal Elections, with 49.28% of the votes cast compared to 66.44% in the 2016 Municipal Elections. Voter turnout yesterday was 21.75%.

• Washiela Harris in Ward 82 in the City of Cape Town Municipality – CPT. The party retained the seat it won in the 2016 Municipal Elections, with 64.02% of the votes cast compared to 83.64% in the 2016 Municipal Elections. Voter turnout yesterday was 23.94%.
