If you will be out of the country on election day (08 May 2019) and you qualify, you can submit a VEC 10 to notify us of your intention to vote on 27 April 2019 at a South African embassy, high commission or consulate-general.

Please note that, by law, it is not possible to vote abroad on any date other than 27 April 2019, and no exceptions can be made.

Who can vote abroad?

In order to vote abroad, you must be a South African citizen and a registered voter. Check your registration status online.

When can I notify the IEC of my intention to vote abroad?

Submissions open on proclamation day, 26 February 2019, and close on 13 March 2019 at midnight (UTC+02:00).

How do I submit a VEC10 notification?

The recommended method of submission is to use our online system.

If you don't want to submit it online, you can also download the VEC 10 form and submit it via hand delivery to our national office in Pretoria at:

What must I bring when I vote abroad?

In order to vote abroad on 27 April, you must bring:

  • your green, bar-coded ID book; smartcard ID; or valid Temporary Identity Certificate; AND
  • your valid South African passport or (temporary passport).
