South Africans living abroad will have an
opportunity to register or re-register for the 2024 National Elections at South
Africa’s 120 high commissions, embassies and consulates on 26 and 27 OR 27 and
28 January 2024.
Eligible voters are urged to check on the exact registration
weekend dates and times at their local South African mission.
Find your mission abroad at https://www.dirco.gov.za/south-african-representation-abroad/.
The Electoral Commission acknowledges the
Department of International Relations and Cooperation (DIRCO) for its continued
collaboration in ensuring the sustained franchise of South Africans abroad.
Citizens aged 16 years and older can
register to vote abroad. All they need are a South African identity document
(ID), either a green barcoded ID book, smartcard ID or a valid temporary ID
certificate, and a valid South African passport.
When registering, voters will need to indicate
which country mission they will be voting at to allow the Electoral Commission
to place them on the correct segment of the voters’ roll abroad.
The online voter registration portal (https://registertovote.elections.org.za)
is now also available for voters abroad until the date of proclamation of the
elections for first-time voters to register and for those who are already
registered to update their registration details.
Registered voters can visit the Electoral
Commission website (www.elections.org.za) to check their current registration
details.
The Electoral Commission’s helpline is
available to assist citizens with queries and information about the
registration process and information related to location of voting station. The
contact centre can be reached on [email protected]
or on the Electoral Commission’s social media pages @IECSouthAfrica from
abroad, and operates from 08h00 to 17h00 South African time, weekdays. It will
be closed from 25 December and reopen on 2 January 2024.
