Four (4) municipal ward
by-elections will take place in the Eastern Cape and Northern Cape on
Wednesday, 9 October 2024. These by-elections will be contested by 23
political party candidates from 12 political parties.
Tuesday, 01 October 2024
Voter registration will be
held this weekend for 3 municipal wards by-elections scheduled to take place on
Wednesday, 20 November 2024. Voting
stations will be open from 08h00 to 17h00 on Saturday, 5 October
2024, and Sunday, 6 October 2024, to allow all eligible voters to register
and for current voters to check their registration details and to provide or
update address details where necessary.

The Democratic Alliance (DA) retained
sixteen of its seats while the African National Congress (ANC) also retained
four (4) seats. Al Jama-Ah and Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) both retained a seat
each and uMkhonto Wesizwe Party won a seat in the by-elections held on 11
September 2024.

On Wednesday, 11 September 2024, 23 municipal ward by-elections will be held in the following provinces: Free State, Gauteng, KwaZulu-Natal, Mpumalanga and North West. The by-elections will be contested by an independent candidate and 80 political party candidates from 15 political parties.

This weekend, the Electoral
Commission will hold voter registration for six (6) municipal ward by-elections
in the Gauteng, Mpumalanga, and Western Cape provinces. The by-elections are set to take
place on Wednesday, 23 October 2024.
Voting
stations will be open on Saturday 7 September 2024, and Sunday, 8 September
2024, from 08h00 to 17h00 to allow all eligible voters to register and for
current voters to check their registration details and to provide/update
address details where necessary.

The Electoral Commission hereby publishes the first quarter political funding disclosure report for the financial year 2024/25. The report covers the period 1 April to 30 June 2024. Most notably, it is the first report since the inauguration of the seventh parliament and administration following the successful hosting of free and fair 2024 National and Provincial Elections on 29 May 2024.

The African National Congress (ANC) retained five
(5) of its seats while the Democratic Alliance (DA) also retained six (6) seats
and won a seat in the by-elections held on 28 August 2024. An independent
candidate won a seat previously occupied by the DA,
and UMkhonto Wesizwe Party (MKP) also won a seat.

Fourteen municipal ward by-elections will take place in the Free State, Gauteng, KwaZulu-Natal, Mpumalanga, North West and Western Cape on Wednesday, 28 August 2024. The by-elections will be contested by an independent candidate, 51 political party candidates from 13 political parties.

The African National Congress (ANC) and the Democratic Alliance (DA) political parties retained all their seats in the by-elections held on Wednesday, 14 August 2024. The ANC retained four seats and the DA retained two seats.
