In the by-election held on Wednesday, 15 April 2026 in the Eastern Cape, the African National Congress (ANC) retained the seat it held in the 2021 Municipal Elections.

Tuesday, 14 April 2026

Three (03) candidates from three political parties will contest by-elections set to take place in the Eastern Cape on 15 April 2026.

Thursday, 09 April 2026

The Electoral Commission will this weekend, Saturday, 11 April 2026 and Sunday, 12 April 2026 hold voter registration in Gauteng and the North West ahead of the municipal by-elections scheduled to take place on Wednesday 27 May 2026.

The Electoral Commission has today, 27 March 2026, published a Government Gazette notice inviting political parties, independent candidates and all interested stakeholders to comment on the proposed deposit amount for the 2026/27 local government elections.

In the by-elections held on Wednesday, 25 March 2026 in the Western Cape, the African National Congress (ANC) retained their seat in the City of Cape Town Municipality while the Patriotic Alliance won a seat in the Oudtshoorn Municipality.

The Electoral Commission has released the results of the latest Voter Participation Survey (VPS), which serves as an important indicator of public sentiment ahead of the forthcoming 2026/27 Local Government Elections. The survey results were released during a research seminar held in Johannesburg today, 24 March 2026.

Twelve (12) candidates from 10 political parties will contest by-elections set to take place in the Western Cape on 25 March 2026.

Friday, 20 March 2026

In the by-elections held on Wednesday, 18 March 2026, the African National Congress (ANC) retained their seats in the Buffalo City and the Winnie Madikizela-Mandela Municipalities in the Eastern Cape and lost a seat in the Dr Beyers Naude Municipality. In KwaZulu-Natal, the Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) retained their seat in Nongoma ward 20, won seats in Nongoma ward 07 and in the Abaqulusi Municipality.

Twenty-eight (28) candidates from 12 political parties and two independent candidates will contest by-elections set to take place in KwaZulu Natal and the Eastern Cape on 18 March 2026.
