North West on Wednesday, 17 July 2024.

Voter registration will be
held this weekend, on 13 and 14 July 2024, for 14 municipal ward by-elections scheduled to take place on
Wednesday, 28 August 2024.

During the by-elections contested on 19 June 2024 in KwaZulu-Natal, and the Western Cape provinces, the African National Congress retained three (3) seats; while the Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) won five (5) seats and retained two (2) seats.
On the other hand, the Democratic Alliance (DA) won four (4) seats and retained three (3) seats. Umkhonto Wesizwe (MK) won a seat.

The Electoral Commission extends its gratitude to South Africans who registered for and cast special votes at 22 626 voting stations and home visits over the past two days. At a point in the course of this afternoon indications are that 937 144 voters had been processed. This figure is much higher than was the case in the previous elections and augers well for turnout tomorrow.

The Electoral Commission is ready to welcome voters who have qualified for Special Votes in the 2024 National and Provincial elections. On 27 and 28 May, officials from the Commission will visit homes and institutions of care, as well as welcome, at voting stations across the country, those voters approved to vote by special vote.

The Electoral Commission notes with great concern incidents that occurred at the eThekwini municipality in KwaZulu-Natal on 25 May 2024. Videos are circulating on social media by supporters of the MK Party alleged "vote rigging" in progress. These videos relate to activities at Commission’s storage sites in Chesterville and Hammersdale.
