The Electoral
Commission welcomes today’s judgement of the Constitutional Court in relation
to the challenges to the Electoral Amendment Act. The judgement provides the
necessary certainty in relation to the preparations of the 2024 National and
Provincial Elections.

The Electoral Commission releases the Second Quarter Disclosure Report for the 2023/24 financial year for the period 1 July 2023 to 30 September 2023. It is a milestone tenth report since the Party Funding Act, 2018, came into effect on 1 April 2021.

The
Electoral Commission is pleased to report that it has interacted with 2.9
million voters during the two-day registration weekend which took place from 18
to 19 November 2023. The majority of voters – 2.7 million – visited voting
stations to register, as well as update their details. A total of 196 511 voters
used the online portal to do the same.

Today, the Electoral
Commission declares its readiness to conduct a general registration weekend as
part of preparations of the 2024 National and Provincial Elections. Over two
days, on 18 and 19 November, we will welcome eligible citizens at 23 296
registration stations across our great land.

In the by-elections contested on 8 November 2023 in
the Gauteng, Limpopo, Mpumalanga, and Western Cape provinces, the African
National Congress (ANC) and the Democratic Alliance (DA) both retained their
seats. The DA retained four (4) seats and the ANC retained two (2) seats.

In the four by-elections contested yesterday in the Gauteng, KwaZulu-Natal and Mpumalanga
provinces, an independent candidate won a seat, the African National Congress
(ANC) retained a seat and won another seat, and the Democratic Alliance (DA) also
retained a seat.

The Electoral Commission of South Africa today launched the 2024 National and Provincial Elections (NPE 2024) programme, declaring that it is ready to host millions of eligible voters at over 23 296 voting stations across the country.

In the by-elections contested on 11 October 2023 in
Mpumalanga, the North West and the Northern Cape provinces, the African National
Congress (ANC) and the Democratic Alliance (DA) both retained two (2) seats
each. The ANC lost two seats, one to the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF)
and another to the Patriotic Alliance (PA).

The Electoral Commission has
concluded the revision of voting district boundaries in an effort to increase
voter access in the 2024 National and Provincial Elections. As a result, some
new voting districts have been created, others have been disestablished, while
some existing voting districts have changed shape.
