In the first municipal ward by-elections of 2025, the African National Congress (ANC) retained its seat in the by-elections in Ward 24 in Bushbuckridge Municipality – MP325, in Mpumalanga, held on 15 January 2025.

A municipal ward by-election will take place in the Mpumalanga Province on Wednesday, 15 January 2025. The by-election will be contested by two (2) candidates from two 2 political parties.

The Electoral Commission will on Wednesday, 4 December 2024, hold municipal by-elections in the Eastern Cape, KwaZulu- Natal, North-West, Northern Cape and Western Cape to be contested by 22 political party candidates from 11 political parties.

Voter registration for municipal by-elections in the Eastern Cape will be held this weekend, Saturday, 23 November and Sunday, 24 November 2024. The by-elections in the Raymond Mhlaba and Intsika Yethu municipalities, are set to take place on Wednesday, 22 January 2025.

The African National Congress (ANC) and the Democratic Alliance (DA) retained their seats in the by-elections held on 20 November 2024, while the Patriotic Alliance won a seat previously held by the ANC.
