Candidates contesting Municipal By-elections on 02 April 2025

Twenty-nine (29) candidates from 16 political parties will contest by-elections set to take place in the Eastern Cape, Gauteng, KwaZulu-Natal and Limpopo on 02 April 2025.
 
Eastern Cape

Ward 13 in the Intsika Yethu Municipality – EC135 will be contested by four political party candidates. 
1. Litha Herbet Ngwilikane of the United Democratic Movement (UDM), 
2. Mfundo Genu of the African National Congress (ANC)
3. Momelezi Houbert Bingwa of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) 
4. Ziyagida Macro Sonyabashe of the African Congress for Transformation (ACT).

The ward became vacant as a result of the councillor’s death.

Gauteng

Ward 82 in the City of Johannesburg Municipality – JHB will be contested by 10 political party candidates. 
1. Thimothy Pheagane Moagi of the African National Congress (ANC)
2. Grant Randy Devereux of the African Christian Democratic Party (ACDP) 
3. Anistine Shawneese Racquel Watson of the Democratic Alliance (DA)
4. Simon Cotty of the African Independent Congress (AIC)
5. Baakie Mohamed of AL JAMA-AH (ALJAMA)
6. Joshua Sechaba Sono of the EFF
7. Beverley Marilyne Smouse of the Patriotic Alliance (PA)
8. Stephen Katz of the Indigenous Democratic Revolution (IDR)
9. Dean Russel Henry of the National Coloured Congress (CCC)
10. Edries Malcolm Bagley of the Amalgamated Rainbow Movement (ARM).

The ward became vacant as a result of the councillor’s death.

Ward 99 in the City of Johannesburg Municipality – JHB will be contested by two political party candidates. 
1. Nombuso Mbali Khosiwe Mhlongo of the African National Congress (ANC)
2. Hendrik Bodenstein of the DA.

The ward became vacant as a result of the councillor’s death. 

KwaZulu-Natal

Ward 12 in the uPhongolo Municipality – KZN262 will be contested by five political party candidates. 
1. Bhekinkosi Welcome Ndlangamandla of the IFP
2. Welcome Ntokozo Radebe of the ANC
3. Phakamani Zwelakhe Msibi of the EFF
4. Ndumiso Zwane of the National People's Front (NAPF) 
5. Celimpilo Donald Mavuso of the Umkhonto Wesizwe (MK)

The ward became vacant as a result of the councillor’s death.

Ward 28 in the KwaDukuza Municipality – KZN292 will be contested by four political party candidates. 
1. Mzukisi Mabengu of the IFP
2. Lucia New Mlondo of the ANC
3. Gibson Sikhosiphi Mbuthu of the EFF 
4. Vishnugopal Govender of the MK. 

The ward became vacant as a result of the resignation of councillor. 

Limpopo

Ward 09 in the Makhado Municipality – LIM344 will be contested by four political party candidates. 
1. Khumbudzo Madzhini of the ANC
2. Maria Alida Wentzel of the DA
3. Fhatuwani Mugwena of the African People's Convention (APC) 
4. Ranideshvari Agambaram Naidoo of the MK.

The ward became vacant as a result of the councillor’s death.
