Candidates contesting Municipal By-elections on 15 October 2025

Thirty-four (34) candidates from 18 political parties and two independent candidates will contest by-elections set to take place in the Eastern Cape, Gauteng, Limpopo, North West and Western Cape on 15 October 2025.


Eastern Cape

  • Ward 15 in the Dr AB Xuma Municipality – EC137 will be contested by 04 political party candidates.

1. Menzisi Bobotyana of the United Democratic Movement (UDM) party

2. Vuyiswa Poswa of the African National Congress (ANC)

3. Noncedo Koti of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF)

4. Zibulele Milner Ntanduluka of the African Transformation Movement (ATM)

The ward became vacant because the current councillor no longer qualifies to be a councillor.


Gauteng

  • Ward 29 in the City of Johannesburg Municipality – JHB will be contested by 11 political party candidates and one independent candidate. 

1. Mxolisi Popo Tetyana, Independent candidate

2. Edward Prince Motlhabi of the ANC

3. Joseph Christian Williams of the Democratic Alliance (DA)

4. Ravern Arnold Martin of the African Independent Congress (AIC)

5. Kwena John Ngoetjana of the Congress of the People (Cope)

6. Moeketsi Matthews Moahloli of the EFF

7. Raymont Ismael Steenkamp of the Patriotic Alliance (PA)

8. Josiah Moloi of ActionSA

9. Thabang Mohale of the Umkhonto Wesizwe Party (MKP)

10. Edith Thembi Sikosana of the All Citizens Party (ACP)

11. Alton Daniel Stephens of the Operation Dudula (OD)

12. Botha Thabo Futhani of the African Movement Congress ( AMC.ROY)

The ward became vacant as a result of the death of the councillor.


Limpopo

  • Ward 02 in the Musina Municipality – LIM341 will be contested by 06 political party candidates. 

1. Raymond Mashudu Nyathi of the ANC

2. Mashudu Malakia Phupheli of the DA

3. Thomphani Arnold Masindi of the South African Communist Party (SACP)

4. Samuel Ndefelani Mukwevho of the EFF

5. Sarah Molato Kamanga of the Economic Liberators Forum South Africa (ELF-SA)

6. Joyce Mbulaheni Maumela of the Build A Better South Africa (BABSA)

The ward became vacant because of the death of the councillor.


North West

  • Ward 07 in the Ramotshere Moiloa Municipality – NW385 will be contested by 06 political party candidates and one independent candidate. 

1. Kenneth Moeng Kgwadi, independent candidate

2. Ben Kabelo Malefo of the ANC

3. Mogomotsi Monamodi of the EFF

4. Boitumelo Abel Mooki of the PA

5. Moses Moumakwa of ActionSA

6. Dikgang George Moilwa of the MKP

7. Rapelang Isaac Dipale of the Labour Party of South Africa (Labour)

The ward became vacant because of the termination of the councillor’s party membership.


Western Cape

  • Ward 04 in the Langeberg Municipality – WC026 will be contested by 04 political party candidates. 

1. Daniel Barranor Baadjies of the ANC

2. Rodger Renier Kortje of the DA

3. JJ Johannes Saolomon Januarie of the PA

4. Errol Justice Vollenhoven of Langerberg Independent Party (LIP)

The ward became vacant because of the resignation of councillor.


  • Ward 06 in the Swellendam Municipality – WC034 will be contested by 03 political party candidates. 

1. Henry Frederick Matthysen of the ANC

2. Russel Ricardo Goliath of the DA

3. Julian Alan Matthysen of the PA

The ward became vacant because of the resignation of councillor.
