Candidates contesting Municipal By-elections on 5 February 2025

Two (02) municipal ward by-elections will take place on Wednesday, 5 February 2025, in the Gauteng Province. These by-elections will be contested by 11 political party candidates from 08 political parties.

GAUTENG

Ward 01 in Midvaal Municipality – GT422, will be contested by five political party candidates.

1. Ntsokolo Meshack Mqina of the African National Congress (ANC)

2. Petrus Johannes Gabriel Swart of the Democratic Alliance (DA)

3. Oupa Jacob Motlokoa of the Socialist Economic Freedom Movement (SEFM)

4. Nomaswazi Thokozile Mahlaba of the Truth and Solidarity Movement (TRUTH)

5. Peter Radipanaki Mosokwameng of the Umkhonto Wesizwe (MK)  

The ward was previously represented by the DA and became vacant as a result of the death of a councillor. The voter turnout for this ward in the 2021 Municipal Elections was 55.66%  


Ward 35 in Rand West City – GT485, will be contested by six political party candidates.

1. Tinah Nomlinda Nobunga of the ANC

2. Portia Julia Mkabela of the Azanian People’s Organisation (AZAPO)

3. Uhuru Lwazzee Kesupile of the Congress of the People (COPE)

4. Tebogo Shaun Kamango of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF)

5. Vonani Reuben Mathebula of the TRUTH

6. Nolusindiso Kolanisi of the MK.   

The ward was previously represented by the ANC and became vacant as a result of the death of the councillor. The voter turnout for this ward in the 2021 Municipal Elections was 54.86%.
