Four (4) municipal ward by-elections will take place in the Eastern Cape and Northern Cape on Wednesday, 9 October 2024. These by-elections will be contested by 23 political party candidates from 12 political parties.
In Eastern Cape
- Ward 12 in Buffalo City Municipality – BUF, will be contested by seven (7) political party candidates.
1. Dumisani Ntyabontyi of the African National Congress (ANC)
2. Zolile Elliot Mbangi of the Al Jama-Ah
3. Wanele Zukani of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF)
4. Mzwandile Mqotyana of the Pan Africanist Congress of Azania (PAC)
5. Siyabulela Viso of the Truth and Solidarity Movement (THRUTH)
6. Yondela Sekalo of the UMkhonto Wesizwe Party (MKP)
7. Ntuthuzelo Ceshemba of the United Democratic Movement (UDM)
The ward was previously represented by the ANC and became vacant as a result of the councillor’s death. The voter turnout for this ward in the 2021 Municipal Elections was 41,37%.
- Ward 20 in Buffalo City Municipality – BUF, will be contested by seven (7) political party candidates.
1. Lundile Mbexeshi of the African Christian Democratic Party (ACDP)
2. Lwando Pisane of the ANC
3. Mzonzima Mthuthuzeli Ngxovula of the Al Jama-Ah
4. Simphiwe Mboni of the EFF
5. Zamikaya Nicholson Xabe of the PAC
6. Siphosethu Somke of the THRUTH and 7. Nomampondo Pali of the MKP
The ward was previously represented by the ANC and became vacant as a result of the councillor’s death. The voter turnout for this ward in the 2021 Municipal Elections was 45,78%.
- Ward 15 in Intsika Yethu Municipality – EC135, will be contested by four (4) political party candidates.
1. Caecilia Notaru Mathobela of the African Congress for Transformation (ATM)
2. Sithembele Mangqangwana of the ANC
3. Nonesi Soga of the TRUTH
4. Madodana Timla of the MKP
The ward was previously represented by the ANC and became vacant as a result of the councillor’s death. The voter turnout for this ward in the 2021 Municipal Elections was 50,69%.
In Northern Cape
- Ward 06 in the !Kheis Municipality – NC084, will be contested by 5 political parties.
1. Junine Patricia Priscilla Ludick of the ANC
2. Remiro Vadan Delano Kgatlane of the Democratic Alliance (DA)
3. Jurgen Hendrik Jooste of the Patriotic Alliance (PA)
4. Patricia Smith of the THRUTH
5. Hlalele Isaiah Mtaung of the MKP.
The ward was previously represented by the DA and became vacant as a result of termination of councillor membership from party. The voter turnout for this ward in the 2021 Municipal Elections was 75,64%.
