Electoral Commission to meet MKP leadership as part of KwaZulu-Natal Stakeholder Engagements

The Electoral Commission will today, Monday, 04 May 2026, meet with former President Jacob Zuma and a delegation of Umkhonto weSizwe Party (MKP) in Nkandla, KwaZulu-Natal (KZN).

This engagement forms part of the Commission’s ongoing stakeholder outreach in KZN, following a successful week-long programme of consultations conducted from 20 to 24 April 2026, in preparation for the 04 November 2026 Municipal Elections.

During that week, the Commission engaged a broad spectrum of institutions of leadership across the province, including the Premier of KwaZulu-Natal, Thami Ntuli; traditional leadership, notably His Majesty Misuzulu kaZwelithini; leaders of political parties; faith-based formations and civil society organisations.

These engagements provided a constructive platform to exchange views on the state of democracy, electoral readiness, and the collective responsibility to foster a peaceful and credible electoral environment.

The upcoming meeting with Mr Zuma and the MKP delegation builds on this inclusive approach and reflects the Commission’s commitment to sustained and respectful dialogue with all key stakeholders.

The Commission remains encouraged by the spirit of cooperation demonstrated during its engagements in KwaZulu-Natal and will continue working collaboratively with all stakeholders to deliver elections that are free, fair, credible and inclusive elections.
