The Electoral Commission is pleased to report that voting is progressing well in the by-elections taking place in the Gauteng and Western Cape Provinces today. All voting stations in ward 2 in the Mogale City Municipality in Gauteng and in wards 4 in the Cederberg and Langeberg Municipalities opened at 07h00 and will remain so until 21h00 this evening.
The Electoral Commission is calling on all registered voters in the respective wards to go and vote. Fifteen (15) candidates from nine political parties were nominated to contest the vacant seats.
The nominated candidates are as follows:
Gauteng
• Ward 02 in the Mogale City Municipality – GT481 will be contested by five political party candidates.
1. Daniel Ramora Malebo of the African National Congress (ANC).
2. Mangaliso Elijah Zwane of the Pan Africanist Congress (PAC)
3. Luyolo Yusuf Nape of the Democratic Alliance (DA)
4. Tebogo Malvin Koloi of ActionSA
5. Tshepo Msibi of the Umkhonto Wesizwe Party (MKP)
The ward became vacant because of the expulsion of councillor by the MEC.
Western Cape
• Ward 04 in the Cederberg Municipality – WC012 will be contested by six political party candidates.
1. Xolile Sidwell Qwesha of the ANC
2. Paulus Jacobus Strauss of the DA
3. Gerald Dennis Klaase of the Patriotic Alliance (PA)
4. Wentzel Corné Van Neel of the National Coloured Congress (CCC)
5. Elizabeth Van Der Westhuizen of the Cederberg First Residents Association (CE)
6. Susara Wilhemina Titus of the Truth and Solidarity Movement (Truth)
The ward became vacant because of the termination of councillor membership from the party.
• Ward 04 in the Langeberg Municipality – WC026 will be contested by four candidates.
1. James Noble of the ANC
2. Daniël Barranor Baadjies of the DA
3. Moses Plaatjies of the PA
4. Jason Carlton Matthys of the Truth party
The ward became vacant because of the resignation of councillor.
