Results for municipal by-elections held on 14 May 2025

In the by-elections held yesterday,14 May 2025, the African National Congress (ANC) retained its seats in Gauteng and KwaZulu-Natal, and won a seat in Northern Cape, while the Democratic Alliance (DA) won a seat in the Western Cape.


Gauteng

The new ANC Councillor is:

  • Siyakudumisa Makaula, in ward 24 in the City of Johannesburg Municipality, JHB, Gauteng. The party retained the seat it won in the 2021 Municipal Elections, with 54.76% of the total votes cast, compared to 55.70% during the 2021 Municipal Elections. Voter turnout was 27.37%.

  KwaZulu-Natal

The new ANC Councillor is:

  • Makhosazane Benrose Bhengu, in ward 04 in Mpofana, KZN223, KwaZulu- Natal. The party retained the seat it won in the 2021 Municipal Elections, with 51.09% of the total votes cast, compared to 68% during the 2021 Municipal Elections. Voter turnout was 63.67%.

Northern Cape

The new ANC Councillor is:

Western Cape

The new DA Councillor is:

  • Isabelle De Taillefer, in ward 09 in the Stellenbosch Municipality, WC024, Western Cape. The party retained the seat it won in the 2021 Municipal Elections, with 94.74% of the total votes cast, compared to 85.59% during the 2021 Municipal Elections. Voter turnout was 6.59%.
