In the by-elections held in Free
State, Eastern Cape, and Northern Cape on Wednesday, 28 May 2025, the African
National Congress (ANC) retained its seats in Eastern Cape, Free State, and
Northern Cape, while the Patriotic Alliance (PA) won a seat in Northern Cape.
Free
State
The new ANC Councillor is:
- Motshidisi
Martha Motsoeneng, in ward 16 in the Ngwathe Local Municipality, Ngwathe FS203, Free State. The party retained the seat
it won in the 2021 Municipal Elections, with 47.54% of the total votes cast,
compared to 62.09% during the 2021 Municipal Elections. Voter turnout was 56.74%.
Eastern Cape
The new ANC Councillor is:
- Clive
Kenneth Witbooi, in ward 05 in Kou-Kamma Local Municipality, EC109, Eastern
Cape. The party retained the seat it won in the 2021 Municipal Elections, with
49.66% of the total votes cast, compared to 50.21% during the 2021 Municipal
Elections. Voter turnout was 56.07%.
Northern Cape
The new ANC Councillor is:
- Leonard De Jongh, in ward 06
in the Nama Khoi Local Municipality, NC062, Northern Cape. The
party retained the seat it won in the 2021 Municipal Elections, with 39.38%
of the total votes cast, compared to 65.93%, compared to during the 2021
Municipal Elections. Voter turnout was 61.74%.
Northern Cape
The new PA Councillor is:
- Sandra Annamarie Muller, in
ward 04 in the Karoo Hoogland Local Municipality, NC066, Northern Cape. The
party won a seat previously held by the African National Congress in the
2021 Municipal Elections with 51.50% of the total votes cast, compared to 44.84%
during the 2021 Municipal Elections. Voter turnout was 66.86%.
