In the by-elections held in the
Eastern Cape, Limpopo, and Northern Cape provinces on Wednesday, 03 September
2025, the African National Congress (ANC) retained the seats it had secured in
the 2021 Local Government Elections in the Eastern Cape and Limpopo provinces.
The Democratic Alliance (DA) won
a seat in the Siyancuma Local Municipality, which had previously been held by
an Independent Candidate.
Eastern Cape
The new ANC Councillor is:
- Thembinkosi Klaas in ward 04 in Emalahleni Local Municipality,
EC136, Eastern Cape. The party retained the seat it won in the 2021
Municipal Elections, with 92.17% of the total votes cast, compared to
84.99% in the 2021 Municipal Elections. Voter turnout was 36.32%.
Limpopo
The new ANC Councillor is:
- Mahlatse Mathipa, in ward 34 in the Fetakgomo Tubatse Local
Municipality, LIM476, Limpopo. The party retained the seat it won in the
2021 Municipal Elections, with 78.67% of the total votes cast, compared to
75.60% in the 2021 Municipal Elections. Voter turnout was 49.66%.
Northen Cape
The new DA Councillor is:
- Lemfvia Christiana Van Niekerk, in ward 04 in the Siyancuma Local
Municipality, NC078, Northern Cape. The party won a seat previously held
by the Independent Candidate (Willem Jouke Van Bergen) in the 2021
Municipal Elections, securing 56.11% of the total votes cast, compared to
39.31% during the 2021 Municipal Elections. Voter turnout was 61.16%.
