Results of Municipal By-elections held on 10 September 2025

In the by-elections held in the Eastern Cape, Free State, Gauteng and Limpopo provinces on Wednesday, 10 September 2025, the African National Congress (ANC) retained three (3) seats it won in the 2021 Local Government Elections. The Patriotic Alliance (PA) has won a seat in the Kou-Kamma Local Municipality, previously held by the African National Congress (ANC).

Eastern Cape

The new PA Councillor is:

  • Betram Mornay Korkee, in ward 01 in the Kou-Kamma Local Municipality, EC109, Eastern Cape. The party won a seat previously held by the African National Congress (ANC) in the 2021 Municipal Elections, securing 47.60% of the total votes cast, compared to 52.97% during the 2021 Municipal Elections. Voter turnout was 56.06%.

Free State

The new ANC Councillor is:

  • Anna Manthoba Mohapi, in ward 07 in the Nala Local Municipality, FS185, Free State. The party retained the seat it won in the 2021 Municipal Elections, with 50.17% of the total votes cast, compared to 54.32% during the 2021 Municipal Elections. Voter turnout was 63.14%.

Gauteng

The new ANC Councillor is:

  • Nduduzo Mzolo, in ward 130 in the City of Johannesburg Metropolitan Municipality, JHB, Gauteng. The party retained the seat it won in the 2021 Municipal Elections, with 34.11% of the total votes cast, compared to 56.16% during the 2021 Municipal Elections. Voter turnout was 31.14%.

Limpopo

The new ANC Councillor is:

  • Malesela Michael Klaas Ramashala, in ward 05 in the Bela-Bela Local Municipality, LIM366, Limpopo. The party retained the seat it won in the 2021 Municipal Elections, with 60.45% of the total votes cast, compared to 71.36% during the 2021 Municipal Elections. Voter turnout was 49.82%.
