In the by-elections held on Wednesday, 11 February 2026, the Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) retained its seat in KwaZulu Natal while the Patriotic Alliance (PA) won a seat in the Western Cape.
The new councillors are as follows:
KwaZulu Natal
The new IFP Councillor is:
• Bakhanyile Nobuhle Shozi in ward 13 in the Umzumbe Municipality, KZN213. The party retained the seat it won in the 2021 Municipal Elections with 43.23% of the total votes cast, compared to 50.09% the 2021 Municipal Elections. Voter turnout was 51.01%.
Western Cape
• The new PA Councillor is:
Naellowine Charmonay Elsebé Esau in ward 16 in the George Municipality, WC044. The party won the seat with 65.26 % of the total votes cast. The seat was previously held by the Good party in the 2021 Municipal Elections in which they attained with 38.80% of the total votes. Voter turnout was 52.80%.
