Results of Municipal By-elections held on 15 October 2025

In the by-elections held in the Eastern Cape, Gauteng, Limpopo, North-west and Western Cape provinces on Wednesday, 15 October 2025, the African National Congress (ANC) retained its seats in the Eastern Cape, Limpopo and Western Cape while Patriotic Alliance won a seat in Gauteng and Western Cape. ActionSA won a seat in North-West.


Eastern Cape

The new ANC Councillor is:

  • Vuyiswa Poswa in ward, 15 in Dr AB Xuma Municipality, EC137, Eastern Cape. The party retained the seat it won in the 2021 Municipal Elections, with 69,42% of the total votes cast, compared to 76,30% in the 2021 Municipal Elections. Voter turnout was 43,76%.

Gauteng

The new Patriotic Alliance Councillor is:

  • Raymont Ismael Steenkamp, in ward 29 in the City of Johannesburg Metro Municipality, JHB, Gauteng. The party won a seat previously held by the ANC in the 2021 Municipal Elections, with 30,46% of the total votes cast, compared to 38,84 in the 2021 Municipal Elections. Voter turnout was 36.70%.

Limpopo

The new ANC Councillor is:

  • Raymond Mashundu Nyathi, in ward 02 in the Musina Local Municipality, LIM341, Limpopo. The party retained the seat it won in the 2021 Municipal Elections, securing 62.74% of the total votes cast, compared to 75.39% during the 2021 Municipal Elections. Voter turnout was 33.60%.

North West

The new ActionSA Councillor is:

  • Moses Moumakwa, in ward 07 in the Ramotshere Moiloa Local Municipality, NW385, North West. The party won a seat previously held by the ANC in the 2021 Municipal Elections, securing 33.49% of the total votes cast, compared to 57.38% during the 2021 Municipal Elections. Voter turnout was 60.40%.  

Western Cape

The new ANC Councillor is:

  • Daniel Barranor Baadjies, in ward 04 in the Langeberg Local Municipality, WC026, Western Cape. The party retained the seat it won in the 2021 Municipal Elections, securing 47.43% of the total votes cast, compared to 36.53% during the 2021 Municipal Elections. Voter turnout was 60.00%.

Western Cape

The new Patriotic Alliance Councillor is:

  • Julian Alan Matthysen, in ward 06 in the Swellendam Local Municipality, WC034, Western Cape. The party won a seat previously held by the ANC in the 2021 Municipal Elections, securing 50.69% of the total votes cast, compared to 51.88% during the 2021 Municipal Elections. Voter turnout was 58.46%.
