In the by-elections held in Eastern Cape, KwaZulu-
Natal and Limpopo provinces on Wednesday, 16 July 2025, an Independent
Candidate lost a seat to the African National Congress (ANC) in Ngqushwa Local
Municipality. In the Eastern Cape, KwaZulu-Natal and Limpopo provinces, the Democratic
Alliance (DA), Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) and Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) retained
their seats they had secured during the 2021 Local Government Elections.
Eastern
Cape
The new ANC Councillor is:
- Phumlile
Nkulwana, in ward 11 in the Ngqushwa Local Municipality, EC126, Eastern Cape. The party won a seat previously
held by an independent candidate in the 2021 Municipal Elections, securing 69.72%
of the total votes cast, compared to 45.79% in the 2021 Municipal Elections.
Voter turnout was 58.05%.
The new DA Councillor is:
- Annelize
Melony Stanley, in ward 34 in the Nelson Mandela Bay Metropolitan Municipality,
NMA, Eastern Cape. The party retained the
seat it won in the 2021 Municipal Elections, with 46.56% of the total votes
cast, compared to 61.97% during the 2021 Municipal Elections. Voter turnout was 47.27%.
KwaZulu-Natal
The new IFP Councillor is:
- Khulekani
Vincent Myeni, in ward 23 in the Abaqulusi Local Municipality, KZN263, KwaZulu-Natal. The party retained the
seat it won in the 2021 Municipal Elections, with 51.45%
of the total votes cast, compared to 37.57% during the 2021 Municipal
Elections. Voter turnout was 55.29%.
Limpopo
The new EFF Councillor is:

Michael Ramaphoko, in ward 13 in the Polokwane Local Municipality, LIM354, Limpopo. The party retained the seat it
won in the 2021 Municipal Elections, with 57.34% of the total votes cast,
compared to 50.73% during the 2021 Municipal Elections. Voter turnout was 50.55%.
