In by-elections held on Wednesday, 17 December 2025, the Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) retained its seat in KwaZulu-Natal, while in Mpumalanga the African National Congress (ANC) won a seat previously held by an independent candidate.
KwaZulu- Natal
The new IFP Councillor is:
• Wiseman Fihlokwakhe Njoko in ward 17 in uMfolozi Local Municipality, KZN281. The party retained the seat it won in the 2021 Municipal Elections, with 62.43% of the total votes cast, compared to 50.90% in the 2021 Municipal Elections. Voter turnout was 51.30%.
Mpumalanga
The new ANC Councillor is:
• Nhlanganiso Ntando Sakhile Motha in ward 14 in Mkhondo Local Municipality:MP303. The party secured the seat previously held by an independent candidate in the 2021 Municipal Elections, obtaining 53.88% of the total votes cast, compared to 45.30% in the 2021 Municipal Elections. Voter turnout was 44.34%.
