In the by-elections held in Eastern
Cape and Western Cape provinces on Wednesday, 20 August 2025.Both the Democratic
Alliance (DA) and the African National Congress (ANC)
retained the seats they had secured in the 2021 Local Government Elections in
the Eastern Cape and Western Cape provinces.
Eastern Cape
The new ANC Councillor is:
- Ntsikelelo Shadrack Mzalisi in ward 006
in the King Sabata Dalindyebo Local Municipality, EC157, Eastern Cape. The
party retained the seat it won in the 2021 Municipal Elections, with 43.66% of
the total votes cast, compared to 39.43% in the 2021 Municipal Elections. Voter
turnout was 19.15%.
Western Cape
The new DA Councillor is:
- Richard Van Huyssteen, in ward 007 in
the Matzikama Local Municipality, WC011, Western Cape. The party retained the seat it won with 43.39% of the total votes cast, compared to 26.91% during the 2021
Municipal Elections. Voter turnout was 61.60%.
The new ANC Councillor is:
- Lukhanyiso Nohana, in ward 003 in the
Knysna Local Municipality, WC048, Western Cape. The party retained the seat it
won in the 2021 Municipal Elections, with 50.05% of the total votes cast,
compared to 58.40% during the 2021 Municipal Elections. Voter turnout was 52.26%.
