Results of Municipal By-elections held on 25 February 2026

In the by-elections held on Wednesday, 25 February 2026, the Democratic Alliance (DA) and the African National Congress (ANC) retained their seats in Gauteng Limpopo respectively while the Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) won a seat in KwaZulu-Natal.

Gauteng

The new DA Councillor is:
Beatrice Aletta Susanna Campbell-Cloete in ward 102 in the City of Johannesburg Municipality, JHB. The party retained the seat it won in the 2021 Municipal Elections with 94.80% of the total votes cast, compared to 71.22% in the 2021 Municipal Elections. Voter turnout was 17.62%.

KwaZulu-Natal

The new IFP Councillor is:
Sibusiso Fortune Ndwandwe in ward 17 in the Nongoma Municipality, KZN265. The party won the seat previously held by the National Freedom Party(NFP) with 58.65% of the total votes cast.  The NFP won the seat in the 2021 Municipal Elections with 46.96%. Voter turnout was 48.50%.

Limpopo

The new ANC Councillor is:
Matsikinyane Freddy Makgoba in ward 34 in the Polokwane Municipality, LIM354. The party retained the seat it won in the 2021 Municipal Elections with 72.02% of the total votes cast, compared to 81.05% in the 2021 Municipal Elections. Voter turnout was 39.30%.
