In the by-elections held in Gauteng, the Northern Cape and the Western Cape on 19 March 2025, the
African National Congress (ANC) retained its seats in Gauteng and Northern Cape, and Umkhonto Wesizwe (MK) won a seat in the Western Cape.
Gauteng
The new ANC councillor is:
- Sthembiso Fortune
Hlatshwayo, in ward 59 of the
City of Johannesburg Municipality, JHB, Gauteng. The
party retained the seat won in the 2021 Municipal Elections, with 57.46%
of the total votes cast, compared to 48.37% in the
2021 Municipal Elections. Voter turnout was 16.81%.
Northern Cape
The new ANC councillor is:
- Pako Matthews Bareki, in ward 01 in the Joe
Morolong Municipality, NC451, Northern Cape. The
party retained the seat won in the 2021 Municipal Elections, with 54.12%
of the total votes cast, compared to 62.77% in the 2021 Municipal
Elections. Voter turnout was 62.29%.
Western Cape
The new MK councillor is:
- Mzwandile Simon Biko, in ward 01 in the
Saldanha Municipality, WC014, Western Cape. The
party won a seat previously held by the ANC in the 2021 Municipal
Elections, with 36.33% of the total votes cast, compared to 30.25% during
the 2021 Municipal Elections. Voter turnout was 55.30%.
