Wards to be contested in the municpal by-elections of 18 September 2013

Municipal ward by-elections will take place in six provinces, namely Eastern Cape, Gauteng, KwaZulu-Natal, Limpopo, North West and the Western Cape on Wednesday, 18 September 2013.

A total of 17 wards will be contested. Voting will take place in 64 voting districts in the following wards:

Eastern Cape:
• Ward 22 in Mbhashe [Idutywa] Municipality – EC121 with 3 953 registered voters. The ward was previously represented by the African National Congress and became vacant as a result of the resignation of the councillor.

Gauteng:
• Ward 9 in Lesedi [Heidelberg] Municipality – GT423 with 4 027 registered voters. The ward was previously represented by the Democratic Alliance and became vacant as a result of the death of the councillor.
• Ward 4 in Merafong City [Carletonville] Municipality – GT484 with 4 075 registered voters. The ward was previously represented by the African National Congress and became vacant as a result of the death of the councillor.

KwaZulu-Natal:
• Ward 33 in eThekwini [Durban Metro] Municipality – ETH with 17 504 registered voters. The ward was previously represented by the Democratic Alliance and became vacant as a result of the resignation of the councillor.

Limpopo:
• Ward 8 in Greater Giyani [Giyani] Municipality – LIM331 with 3 524 registered voters. The ward was previously represented by the African National Congress and became vacant as a result of the death of the councillor.

North West:
• Ward 2 in Ramotshere Moiloa [Zeerust] Municipality – NW385 with 3 337 registered voters. The ward was previously represented by the African National Congress and became vacant as a result of the resignation of the councillor.
• Ward 1 in Tlokwe [Potchefstroom] Municipality – NW402 with 3 146 registered voters. The ward was previously represented by the African National Congress and became vacant as a result of the termination of the councillor’s membership from the party.
• Ward 4 in Tlokwe [Potchefstroom] Municipality – NW402 with 4 217 registered voters. The ward was previously represented by the African National Congress and became vacant as a result of the termination of the councillor’s membership from the party.
• Ward 6 in Tlokwe [Potchefstroom] Municipality – NW402 with 4 254 registered voters. The ward was previously represented by the African National Congress and became vacant as a result of the termination of the councillor’s membership from the party.
• Ward 11 in Tlokwe [Potchefstroom] Municipality – NW402 with 1 973 registered voters. The ward was previously represented by the African National Congress and became vacant as a result of the termination of the councillor’s membership from the party.
• Ward 12 in Tlokwe [Potchefstroom] Municipality – NW402 with 2 991 registered voters. The ward was previously represented by the African National Congress and became vacant as a result of the termination of the councillor’s membership from the party.
• Ward 13 in Tlokwe [Potchefstroom] Municipality – NW402 with 4 031 registered voters. The ward was previously represented by the African National Congress and became vacant as a result of the termination of the councillor’s membership from the party.
• Ward 18 in Tlokwe [Potchefstroom] Municipality – NW402 with 3 251 registered voters. The ward was previously represented by the African National Congress and became vacant as a result of the termination of the councillor’s membership from the party.
• Ward 20 in Tlokwe [Potchefstroom] Municipality – NW402 with 1 141 registered voters. The ward was previously represented by the African National Congress and became vacant as a result of the termination of the councillor’s membership from the party.
• Ward 26 in Tlokwe [Potchefstroom] Municipality – NW402 with 5 677 registered voters. The ward was previously represented by the African National Congress and became vacant as a result of the termination of the councillor’s membership from the party.

Western Cape:
• Ward 6 in Drakenstein [Paarl] Municipality – WC023 with 3 647 registered voters. The ward was previously represented by the African National Congress and became vacant as a result of the expulsion of the councillor by the MEC.
• Ward 8 in Mossel Bay [Mossel Bay] Municipality – WC043 with 3 596 registered voters. The ward was previously represented by the Democratic Alliance and became vacant as a result of the termination of the councillor’s membership from the party.
