Candidates contesting Municipal By-elections on 11 September 2024

On Wednesday, 11 September 2024, 23 municipal ward by-elections will be held in the following provinces: Free State, Gauteng, KwaZulu-Natal, Mpumalanga and North West. The by-elections will be contested by an independent candidate and 80 political party candidates from 15 political parties.                    

Free State


  • Ward 35 in Matjhabeng Municipality – FS184, Free State, will be contested by six political party candidates:
     
    1. Siziwe Veronica Mathumbu of the African National Congress (ANC)
    2. Tefo Simon Mathobisa of the African Transformation Movement (ATM) 
    3. Estelle Dansey of the Democratic Alliance (DA) 
    4. Jankie Fulathela Madela of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) 
    5. Pumla Patience Matshikiza of the Independent South African National Civic Organisation (INSANCO)  
    6. Lungile Patrick Malawu of the UMkhonto Wesizwe Party (MKP)

    The ward was previously represented by the DA and became vacant as a result of the councillor’s resignation. The voter turnout for this ward in the 2021 Municipal Elections was 48,34%.
     

  • Ward 18 in the Mangaung Municipality – MAN, Free State, will be contested by two (2) political party candidates:

    1. Masego Mildred Phetlhu of the ANC 
    2. Gregory Owen Van Noord of the DA.

    The ward was previously represented by the DA and became vacant as a result of the councillor’s resignation. The voter turnout for this ward in the 2021 Municipal Elections was 49,93%.


  • Ward 20 in the Mangaung Municipality – MAN, Free State, will be contested by two (2) political party candidates:

    1. Mojeng Phillip Tsatsi of the ANC 
    2. Corize van Rensburg of the DA.

    The ward was previously represented by the DA and became vacant as a result of the councillor’s resignation. The voter turnout for this ward in the 2021 Municipal Elections was 57,43%.


  • Ward 22 in the Mangaung Municipality – MAN, Free State, will be contested by two (2) political party candidates:

    1. Mosa Mpakane of the ANC;
    2. Jan –Hendriks Cronje of the DA. 

    The ward was previously represented by the DA and became vacant as a result of the councillor’s resignation. The voter turnout for this ward in the 2021 Municipal Elections was 59,14%.


  • Ward 25 in the Mangaung Municipality – MAN, Free State, will be contested by two (2) political party candidates:

    1. Shadrack Mbulelo Thukani of the ANC;
    2. Paul Maré Kotzé of the DA. 

    The ward was previously represented by the DA and became vacant as a result of the councillor’s resignation. The voter turnout for this ward in the 2021 Municipal Elections was 66,09%.



    Gauteng


  • Ward 12 in the Mogale City Municipality – GT481, will be contested by six (6) political party candidates:

    1. Sandra Mokgwathi of the ANC 
    2. Jacobos Thomas Legwete of the EFF
    3. Collen Monokele of the Organic Humanity Movement (OHM) 
    4. Brian Moehi Busang of the Pan Africanist Congress of Azania (PAC) 
    5. Angeline Nyandeni of the Patriotic Alliance (PA) 
    6. Samuel Sampi Motlhanke of the MKP.

    The ward was previously represented by the ANC and became vacant as a result of the councillor’s death. The voter turnout for this ward in the 2021 Municipal Elections was 31,73%.


  • Ward 09 in the City of Johannesburg Municipality – JHB, will be contested by nine (9) political party candidates:

    1. Azeeza Majiet of the African Independent Congress (AIC);
    2. Abdul Razak Karolia of the ANC 
    3. Pryiya Ranchod of the ATM
    4. Yakoob Karolia of the Al Jama-Ah
    5. Kuraysha Jackson of the Allied Movement for Change (AM4CS)
    6. Moegamat Haroon Amien of the Amalgamated Rainbow Movement (ARM)
    7. Muhammed Yaeesh Cassim of the DA
    8. Mubarak Basha Mahaboob of the EFF
    9. Farhaad Ismail Mitha of the MKP

    The ward was previously represented by the Al Jama-Ah and became vacant as a result of the councillor’s resignation. The voter turnout for this ward in the 2021 Municipal Elections was 49,96%.


  • Ward 21 in the City of Johannesburg Municipality – JHB, will be contested by six (6) political party candidates:

    1. Themba Kubheka of the AIC
    2. Nkhobo Khomongoe of the ANC
    3. Palesa Elizabeth Moloi of the ATM
    4. Khomotso Patience Moloto of the EFF
    5. Claudelle Chikane of the PA
    6. Stephen Mooki Ditsele of the MKP

    The ward was previously represented by the ANC and became vacant as a result of the councillor’s resignation. The voter turnout for this ward in the 2021 Municipal Elections was 50,82%.



    KwaZulu-Natal


  • Ward 33 in the EThekwini Municipality – ETH, KwaZulu-Natal; will be contested by three (3) political party candidates:

    1. Emmanuel Sthembiso Madlala of the ANC
    2. Francine Mary Kristopher of the DA
    3. Mvikelwa Robert Mkhize of the MKP.

    The ward was previously represented by the DA and became vacant as a result of the councillor’s resignation. The voter turnout for this ward in the 2021 Municipal Elections was 39,97%.


  • Ward 35 in the EThekwini Municipality – ETH, KwaZulu-Natal; will be contested by three (3) political party candidates:

    1. Saul David Basckin of the ActionSA
    2. Xolani Mabaso of the ANC
    3. Bradly Singh of the DA.

    The ward was previously represented by the DA and became vacant as a result of the councillor’s resignation. The voter turnout for this ward in the 2021 Municipal Elections was 55,78%.


  • Ward 36 in the EThekwini Municipality – ETH, KwaZulu-Natal; will be contested by three (3) political party candidates:

    1. Smangele Ruth Nsibande of the ANC
    2. Heinz Ulrik De Boer of the DA,
    3. Nkosepayo Patrick Ncedana of the MKP.

    The ward was previously represented by the DA and became vacant as a result of the councillor’s resignation. The voter turnout for this ward in the 2021 Municipal Elections was 52,70%.


  • Ward 15 in the uMdoni Municipality – KZN212, KwaZulu-Natal will be contested by two (2) political party candidates:

    1. Maduramuthoo Saminadan Govender of the ANC
    2. Dana Janet Daniels of the DA.

    The ward was previously represented by the DA and became vacant as a result of the councillor’s resignation. The voter turnout for this ward in the 2021 Municipal Elections was 59,75%.


  • Ward 14 in the Ray Nkonyeni Municipality – KZN216, KwaZulu-Natal will be contested by four (4) political party candidates:

    1. Christinah Nokwazi Masabala of the AIC
    2. Wonderboy Shinga of the ANC
    3. Vumani Mlungisi Rowen Madlala of the Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP)
    4. Thamsanqa Patrick Madlala of the MKP. 

    The ward was previously represented by the ANC and became vacant as a result of the councillor’s resignation. The voter turnout for this ward in the 2021 Municipal Elections was 47,81%.


  • Ward 24 in the Ray Nkonyeni Municipality – KZN216, KwaZulu-Natal, will be contested by three (3) political party candidates:

    1. Thabiso Jingela of the ANC
    2. Sbonelo Mbhele of the IFP
    3. Themba Johannes Zondi of the MKP.

    The ward was previously represented by the ANC and became vacant as a result of the councillor’s death. The voter turnout for this ward in the 2021 Municipal Elections was 42,56%.


  • Ward 04 in the Mpofana Municipality – KZN223, KwaZulu-Natal, will be contested by four (4) political party candidates:

    1. France Mlungisi Malevu of the ANC
    2. Jacko Jakobe Dlomo of the IFP
    3.  Bheki Sphamandla Malevu of the National Freedom Party (NFP)
    4. Mthembeni Ernest Majola of the MKP.

    The ward was previously represented by the ANC and became vacant as a result of the councillor’s resignation. The voter turnout for this ward in the 2021 Municipal Elections was 50,99%.


  • Ward 04 in the Nkandla Municipality – KZN286, KwaZulu-Natal, will be contested by three (3) political party candidates:

    1. Khumbuleni Vivian Mkhaliphi of the ANC
    2. Mbhekiseni Ntethelelo Shelembe of the IFP
    3. Thabani Mpanza of the MKP.

    The ward was previously represented by the IFP and became vacant as a result of the councillor’s death. The voter turnout for this ward in the 2021 Municipal Elections was 52,01%.


  • Ward 06 in the KwaDukuza Municipality – KZN292, KwaZulu-Natal, will be contested by two (2) political party candidates:

    1. Silindile Ngcobo of the ANC
    2. Ayabonga Nkanyiso Zwane of the DA.

    The ward was previously represented by the DA and became vacant as a result of the councillor’s resignation. The voter turnout for this ward in the 2021 Municipal Elections was 46,11%.



    Limpopo

  • Ward 03 in the Lephalale Municipality – LIM362, Limpopo; will be contested by an Independent candidate, Manoko Frans Mathloma and six (6) political party candidates.

    1. Johanna Nkhuna of the ANC
    2. Madimetja Alfred Mabe of the ATM
    3. Madimetja Johannah Kadiaka of the All Citizens Party (ACP)
    4. Johannes Diederik Nel of the DA,
    5. Thabo Robert Lephalala of the EFF
    6. Kedibone Francina  Nkosi of the PAC.

    The ward was previously represented by the DA and became vacant as a result of the councillor’s resignation. The voter turnout for this ward in the 2021 Municipal Elections was 35,87%.



    North-West


  • Ward 07 in the Naledi Municipality – NW392, North West will be contested by two (2) political party candidates:

    1. Moabi Gibson Modise of the ANC
    2. Cornelius Benjamin van Huyssteen of the DA.

    The ward was previously represented by the DA and became vacant as a result of the councillor’s resignation. The voter turnout for this ward in the 2021 Municipal Elections was 41,95%.


  • Ward 39 in the Matlosana Municipality – NW403, North West will be contested by two (2) political party candidates:

    1. Kefiloe Providence Mokoena of the ANC
    2. Inge Wilken of the DA.

    The ward was previously represented by the DA and became vacant as a result of the councillor’s resignation. The voter turnout for this ward in the 2021 Municipal Elections was 59,11%.


  • Ward 07 in the JB Marks Municipality – NW405, North West will be contested by two (2) political party candidates:

    1. Kagiso Emanuel Rakate of the ANC
    2. André Klopper of the of the DA.

    The ward was previously represented by the DA and became vacant as a result of the councillor’s resignation. The voter turnout for this ward in the 2021 Municipal Elections was 37,58%.


  • Ward 22 in the JB Marks Municipality – NW405, North West will be contested by three (3) political party candidates:

    1. Bokang Ketumile Mothibe of the ANC
    2. Zander Janse van Rensburg of the of the DA
    3. Elihle Innocent Mjikwa of the EFF.

    The ward was previously represented by the DA and became vacant as a result of the councillor’s resignation. The voter turnout for this ward in the 2021 Municipal Elections was 29,26%.


  • Ward 24 in the JB Marks Municipality – NW405, North West will be contested by two (2) political party candidates:

    1. Fikile Shumane of the ANC
    2. Sean David Trautmann of the DA.

    The ward was previously represented by the DA and became vacant as a result of the councillor’s resignation. The voter turnout for this ward in the 2021 Municipal Elections was 51,04%.
