In the by-elections contested on 23 August 2023 in the Eastern Cape, Gauteng and the North West provinces, both the African National Congress (ANC) and the Democratic Alliance (DA) retained their seats.
The ANC retained four (4) seats and the Democratic Alliance retained one seat.
The new ANC councillors are:
- Nondumiso Qakaza Sishuba, in ward 08 Dr AB Xuma Municipality – EC137, Eastern Cape. The party retained the seat it won in the 2021 Municipal Elections, with 88,59% of the total votes cast, compared to 90,10% during the 2021 Municipal Elections. Voter turnout yesterday was 35,15%.
- Zuzeka Viivashe, in Ward 12 Dr AB Xuma Municipality – EC137, Eastern Cape. The party retained the seat it won in the 2021 Municipal Elections, with 89,13% of the total votes cast, compared to 89,97% during the 2021 Municipal Elections. Voter turnout yesterday was 39,21%.
- Mathwell Mbulelo Jacobs, in Ward 29 Enoch Mgijima Municipality – EC139, Eastern Cape. The party retained the seat it won in the 2021 Municipal Elections, with 65,83% of the total votes cast, compared to 52,25% during the 2021 Municipal Elections. Voter turnout yesterday was 42,20%.
- Beauty Nteseng Mogale, in Ward 25 Madibeng Municipality – NW372, North West. The party retained the seat it won in the 2021 Municipal Elections, with 66,82% of the total votes cast, compared to 46,01% during the 2021 Municipal Elections. Voter turnout yesterday was 33,16%.
The new DA councillor is:
- Lucinda Jane Harman, in Ward 102 City of Johannesburg Municipality – JHB, Gauteng. The party retained the seat it won in the 2021 Municipal Elections, with 94,67% of the total votes cast compared to 71,22% during the 2021 Municipal Elections. Voter turnout yesterday was 16.50%.
