Results of the Municipal By-elections held on 3 August 2022

Following the by-elections contested yesterday in Gauteng, KwaZulu-Natal and Limpopo, both the Democratic Alliance (DA) and the Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) retained two seats each. 

The new councillors for the DA are:

• Shane Maas in Ward 42, in City of Tshwane Municipality – TSH: The party retained the seat won in the 2021 Municipal Elections with 77.55% of the votes cast, compared to 73.56% during the 2021 Municipal Elections. Voter turnout was 28.42%

• Wiets Lourens Botes in Ward 12, in Modimolle Mookgophong Municipality – LIM368: The party retained the seat won in the 2021 Municipal Elections with 68.31% of the votes cast compared to 72.36% during the 2021 Municipal Elections. Voter turnout was 53.64%.

The new councillors for the IFP are:

• Lindokuhle Nu Zondi in  Ward 05 uMvoti Municipality – KZN245:  The party retained the seat won in the 2021 Municipal Elections with 49.70% of the total votes cast compared to 48.16% during the 2021 Municipal Elections. Voter turnout was 53.89%.

• Emmah Sibongile Mthethwa in Ward 03, in uMfolozi Municipality – KZN281: The party retained the seat won in the 2021 Municipal Elections, with 67.89% of the total votes cast compared to 57.21% during the 2021 Municipal Elections. Voter turnout yesterday was 62.43%.
